So during baby’s first year, we’ve been spending a lot of time at home – getting him on a good nap schedule, staying at home during those naps, and you know, how much stuff you have to plan just to get out the door with a baby. And definitely, each month has gotten easier. Ever since Harrison was born, Owen’s love of reading has just grown so much. We’ve spent a lot of time at the library checking out and returning books. (And I love that you can just put the books on hold online and run in real quick and pick them up) Sometimes we wait until Michael’s home and run out to the library for a little while to check out books. We’ve found so many new favorites such as Little Hoot which you can see Owen reading to Harrison below. And you may have seen the cousin’s campout with my mom’s enormous teepee, and after this campout, we just had to get our own. (That one is about 12 ft…..ours is about 7.) I do love that it is indoor outdoor, and it’s usually set up in the playroom or our living room filled with books.
So much time has been spent in this teepee, I knew I wanted to photograph the boys with it before Harrison started crawling. I did have help with this session – there is no way I could have handled the stroller, teepee, camera, diaper bag, bubbles, all by myself. (Other photographer mamas, don’t try to do it all yourself, get help! It will make it so much easier to photograph your own little ones) So planning it was a little stressful because everyday was a high chance of storms for like a week. So finally there was a day with 0% chance of rain (woo-hoo!) We loaded up the car and headed out. It was a super hot July evening but just so fun for these two. Owen was running around everywhere giggling, and Harrison was like, I’m out of the house – yay! He was just so content to sit there and hear the story. So glad we took these before he started crawling – he doesn’t crawl fast now (unless there is something he really wants ) He mostly crawls a little bit, sits up and laughs, and then crawls again. He’s also started babbling a little bit which just melts my heart. The first year is slow in a lot of ways but also super fast. (Anyone else understand that?) So I knew I wanted these when he was six months, just had to get out of the house and get to the park!

If you’ve noticed, the blog has been a little bit quieter than normal. I’ve been placing more of a priority on editing and customer service and then the blog. I have several sessions to blog and will get to them soon, I promise. This has been such a great summer – so many super fun sessions and wow, I’ve loved all of the Coastal Sessions. What a fun memory Coastal sessions are, too, and so much laughter and splashing and sand. Of course, I had to try to squeeze in some portraits of my little ones while we were there.
Baby’s first swim – he was not impressed. (Put the Canon away, Mom.)
Can you believe this little one is 7 months? I have been trying to soak up every minute possible with this little smiling face. He’s just growing so fast and I know I’ll look up one day soon and the first year will be over. He loves giggling with his brother – probably the cutest thing ever. His favorite food is mangoes which it took a few weeks to get him to eat food at all. (Sometimes I forget he was five weeks early mainly because he just acts and thinks he’s so big.) He loves to eat his toes, sit up and see what’s going on, and also loves the Baby Bjorn.
All of this to say, a month or so ago, I just wanted to share a few images of a Mommy and Me session photographed by Christy Johnson. These bring tears to my eyes every time I look at them – I see his sweet personality in every image. What a joy it is to be photographed with your baby, and the first year flies by so fast. It was a good reminder for me, too, what everyone goes through just to GET to the session. Ya’ll would be in tears laughing if I told you every detail about that evening, but we made it, and he fell asleep like three minutes before the session. Quick nap, and we were good to go. (You know I had my heart set on sunset in the background) .Ok, despite all of the funny things that happened on the way there, it is really fun to have a session with a photographer friend because you can bounce ideas off of each other and she totally understood that I wanted real moments of just us. So, here they are just a few of just me and my baby boy (and the tears are starting again..) Thank you, Christy – they are such a treasure!

Inspired by the 5 Minute Project, I’ve been trying to pick up the camera during times I probably normally wouldn’t have and capture things just as they are….imperfect lighting, just a few minutes of capturing our day. I had just gotten Harrison up and gotten him out of his pajamas. I laid him on the bed for a minute, and he being the Owen magnet that he is, Owen was there right away with Owen’s bear bear and the monkey that Owen made for Harrison the day he came home from the hospital. (who now goes in the car with us everywhere, too. He and Bear Bear sit in the middle of the two car seats. I know these days are flying by fast..these happy mornings…these two just so sweet together, so I am thankful I picked up the camera. I love how many little things just a few images can capture, like his love of Jake, Harrison holding his little feet, and their special stuffed animals.
The theme for this month’s blog circle is Real Mess..and with everything going on this month, this was the closest thing I had photographed. Since having two, it’s not rare for things around here to be a real mess! Click on over to Kami Friday Photography’s take on this month’s theme.

Just a reminder that tomorrow I leave for NY. I needed a photo for this post right? My awesome friend Bobbie snapped this image from my last trip to NY circa 2005 (I am really amazing at hailing a cab..Well, not really. I’m not sure we ever got one! I think we had just finished eating some amazing cupcakes, too.) I will be at the Pinkle Toes Workshop Reunion (so excited to see so many friends!) starting tomorrow through May 4th. I will not have my computer with me and will answer e-mails from my phone when I get a chance. If you need to get in touch with me today, please let me know! Otherwise I will chat with you when I return.

Excited to be participating in another blog circle with some super talented photographer friends! This is the first month and the theme for this month is Real Life. I snapped this photo a few days ago at my mom and dad’s house – he just looked way too cute! This is him, laughing and being silly, and I love that it was just fun. He’s growing so fast – I can’t believe in a few months he will be four. I found I’ve been snapping more daily photos of him lately..sleeping, playing, just being him. He’s just such a great big brother, and I love these days of being a superhero on the playground. (I told him to go upstairs and put on some play clothes and that outfit is what he came up with. Of course you need your cape for the sandbox.) I’m so glad it’s spring so we can be outdoors more!
