Oh, he was just too cute with all his smiles and snuggles for his Mommy & Daddy the morning of his first birthday portraits. (He was just so sleepy and content at his newborn portraits a year ago) It’s so much fun to see how much they grow and change, and it was so sweet to see this little one’s personality. We had PERFECT weather the morning of their session – it was absolutely gorgeous! And this little one was so full of smiles, such a sweet session with his Mommy & Daddy.

According to Mom…

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one?

Megan –  Was dancing before I could walk!
Josh –  As a baby, modeled for a poster on bad eating habits (he was a chunker!!) haha
Jameson  – Love monkeys!

What was your favorite part of the session? The location was just beautiful, and the lighting of the early morning and cool morning breeze made it even more so. It really complemented the great mood we were all in, especially Jameson! Josh and I had so much fun just goofing around with him and being silly! We had such a great time and the pictures really captured that.

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the session. I wanted the three of us to coordinate, but not be too “matchy”. And I really just love the clean/crisp look of navy blue and white, so I decided to pick options for each of us that pulled in those colors. Jameson wore three different outfits (I still can’t believe he let us change him that many times and didn’t get fussy!), just because I couldn’t choose just one! And I knew I wanted him in these adorable plaid overalls, because they are just so comfy and cute, and they really matched the outdoorsy/casual feel.

What words of wisdom do you have for other Mamas preparing for a session? Plan the timing around your baby’s nap times if at all possible!! It definitely helps to have a happy and smiley baby!

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? I just mostly wanted Jameson to be in a good mood, so Becky could capture his adorable smile and we wouldn’t have to work too hard to get it!

What are your little one’s favorites? Favorite food – anything with bread (just like his momma!) And of course milk – he still LOVES his bottle!
Favorite toy – his monkey stuffed animal – he sleeps with it every night! And we even got a few pictures of him with monkey at the session:)
Favorite game – peek-a-boo, and he loves to be chased! He’s a really fast crawler!

What wishes do you have for your little one? What dreams do you dream for him? I pray every day that Jameson lives a very long, healthy and happy life filled with lots of family, friends and most importantly, love.

Ok, I just looooooove the sweet simplicity of this session. The three of them together and the soft colors, eeeeek!

The first days at home with your baby are spent, well, taking care of yourself and your baby. That’s pretty much it around the clock..and catching any free moments of sleep that you can. There’s also visitors and doctors appointments so not too much time spent resting. A lot of time is spent thinking about when you will feed your baby next, feeding the baby, changing the baby, trying to remember to feed yourself and also rest. That’s why I love newborn sessions at home. I just have to show up and you can keep on taking care of your baby and spend some quality time together just being photographed. You can take your time getting ready, get outfit advice, Little Apple Styles can even come to your home with clothing options, and we just stop when baby needs to be fed and go by baby’s schedule. Every baby is different – some of them sleep the entire time I’m there and none of us can believe it. (this really rarely happens but I think everyone is disbelief when it does) Other little ones want to eat 75% of the session, and that’s what’s great about being at home. I don’t mind waiting for them to be happy and settled and understand that babies need a lot of soothing and love those first days at home. It is such a sweet job capturing the first days together as a family with your new little one. I first met these two at their maternity session, and they were just so happy and fun together. Photographing them was so much fun, and they were just as laid back at their newborn session cuddling their sweet baby boy. And their nursery was just gorgeous – this Mama did such a good job decorating their nautical nursery! I love that this session was full of neutrals and just focused on the three of them & baby. One thing is for certain – this little man is just so loved. I love that all these images captured just how enthralled they are with their newborn baby boy – such a sweet time that flies by so quickly.

According to Mom…

What was your favorite part of our session together? Working with Becky is always great! One of the nicest things was that she scheduled a lot of time for the shoot so there was no rush!

How did you prepare your baby for our photoshoot? We attempted to have the baby fed and ready to go. Of course newborns have their own schedules. Cole woke up earlier than planned and shifted his next feeding to the exact time Becky arrived. Thankfully Becky was so understanding and assured me that it was okay to take my time to feed our little guy.

It’s hard to believe they have both gotten so big. (Look how cute they were last year at the beach) It has been such a joy watching these two grow so much everyday. I love the 18 months milestone, although he is still so shy, such a Mama’s boy, it is hard to get him to stay somewhere for a photo, he loves colors, his bear, his blanket, his brother. Oh, and he says, “Cars,” and “Trucks,” about 300 times a day. He can often be found peeking through blinds to get a glimpse of some form of transportation. It’s so cute to see how different he and Owen are. He loves reading Duck and Goose books and of course, his cars pajamas are his favorite. He giggles hysterically whenever he sees a picture of him and Owen and we usually have to take a picture frame from his hands once a day. He can be found screaming, “O—-wen, O—–wen,” several times a day as he just loves him so much. These were taken around July 4th week at the beach..this summer is flying by and Owen will be headed to kindergarten soon!

I was shocked when this family of five arrived to the session EARLY. Now, I love to arrive places early….it is very rare that I am late somewhere. Raleigh traffic and having a second child are both things that have humbled me of this. (Why does it take fifteen minutes to walk from the door to the car after you have the second child? I am still trying to figure this out.) Planning for newborn sessions on weekday mornings with traffic..whew. I really never know what to expect and the early bird in me gets a little stressed out. So, when this sweet family showed up early after getting five people ready, I was impressed! We had a fun morning downtown photographing their sweet family and celebrating their sweet baby girl’s first birthday. The weather was a little confusing. I think we had a little bit of sun, clouds, and rain during the session…but mostly just clouds This mama picked the first image for their artwork to be hung in their home, and I just love the way Mom & Dad are looking at each other! We got so many great photos of this sweet family, but I love how baby was the star of the show!

According to Mom….

Why did you choose this location and what was the weather like the day of your session? We chose it because we loved how pretty and green the park was, with the Raleigh skyline in the background. I had seen the location used for another family session on the blog, and loved the city skyline view! The weather was hot (but not as hot as it could have been, thankfully!), and the day was slightly overcast.

What is your favorite family activity? Being outside together!

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one.

Allison – loves to read
Geoff- avid outdoorsman
Rylan- comedian!
Piper- sweet and sassy
Quinn- she is always smiling

What was your favorite part of the session? I loved that the session was so natural. It was more like we were hanging out together at the park, rather than “posing” for pictures. There was lots of laughs during the session!

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the shoot. I began wardrobe planning with Quinn’s outfit, as she was the birthday girl (turning 1!). I loved her colorful tutu (a gift from grandma), and I knew it would allow me to coordinate outfits using few different colors. I chose blue for our son and myself, bright green for Geoff, and pink for Piper. I love that we are wearing bright, coordinating colors, but not being too “matchy”

What props did you bring and why? We brought a small rocking chair to capture some pics of Quinn sitting in it. Her older sister had her 1 yr portraits taken using the same chair

What are some words of wisdom you have for other families preparing for a family session? Try to stay relaxed and roll with things. For sure, it will not go perfect with kids all the time, so all you can do it keep smiling! Becky always gets great photos no matter what. Our middle daughter began the session tearful and refusing to participate, but you would never know it from looking at all the images Becky captured!

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? I was worried about 1) getting all of us up, dressed, and fed on time for our early session time (8:00), 2) the weather! There was a major heat wave the week of our session, but thankfully temps were a bit cooler on our day! and 3) that the baby would be happy and easy going for the session. She was! Whew!
