The Airstream

Raleigh Family Christmas Mini Session Photographer

Oh, Darling, Let’s Be Adventurers…

It is always fun to dream up a creative family shoot for clients, and this one was just so much fun. I’m not a huge camping fan, so this was the best way to camp, ha! (not camp….) I did work at a wilderness camp in 2003 and spent my summer in the woods, even hiked the Appalachian Trail. It was a stretch for me, but I survived. We did a lot of camping with my church youth group growing up. One time, I was in a tent with a friend or two, and it started pouring so badly, there was water everywhere and the tent just slid down the hill into the lake (with us in it). On another camping trip, and a friend and I gave up and slept in my brother’s explorer? expedition?…it was big. The rain was just soaking through our tent like crazy and we were soaked. I have had terrible snake encounters outside – not bit, thank goodness, but I did step on one a few minutes into a hike. Another one surprised jumped out at me from a rock. (And completely weird that in all the tall grass, etc. that I’m in for sessions, I haven’t seen a snake during a photo session yet) I probably shouldn’t have said that because, you know, now I’m going to see one. Ok, so I feel like I had to tell you all of this to say, that the airstream is my kind of camping. It was beautiful and even had a shower – pretty cool.

Boyce Farms has been a favorite for so many years, and the owners are just the best. We love, love, love this farm + loved being able to have the minis there again this year. It is the best farm, and the only place to get your Christmas tree!

Ericka and I spent a lot of time discussing + dreaming up this mini, and I cannot wait to show you all of the images. Previews are hard because I don’t want to give the whole thing away so clients are super excited when they see their gallery. Every single session went so well, Ericka tolerated my Christmas music, we sang the Trolls soundtrack, paddington made an appearance + some clients even got to witness Ericka’s amazing dance moves!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to everyone who came! It was truly an adventure + so much fun.

October Goals

Raleigh Fall Baby Photography

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

I always love this quote, and I looove October. And today really does feel like October. (maybe, finally, it will be fall?) Our falls are so confusing in North Carolina – 90s one day, 50s the next, but I’ll take every single ounce of fall I can get. Things I’m excited about for fall – leaf piles (we have a huge favorite one we visit every year) apple picking (well, we already did this, because close to Raleigh, you have to pick early) pumpkin everything, cool enough days to walk, Hill Ridge Farms, the list goes on and on!

Goals for October

1.If you follow me on facebook, you may have heard about the great Keller decluttering of 2017. It has been a lot of work, and oh so time consuming, but I really love my downstairs so much more. We are still working on the upstairs, because it takes so much time, and can be exhausting sometimes! I do not have this super organized brain so it really drains me sometimes. For this month, I really want to finish Owen’s room’s closet + our bonus room closet. And also the random piles of stuff around the house to either take to goodwill/sell/etc. I have had great success with porch pick up on facebook + it was the greatest invention ever.

2.I love the idea of this challenge for fall. I may turn on my diffuser instead of a candle, though:)I can have a hard time resting sometimes, but it’s so needed.

3.Go see a few more houses on the Parade of Homes. I love going to see the Parade of Homes, and Michael and I got to spend a little over an hour at a few houses this weekend (but I want to go see more homes! There’s a few more weekends) This house was pretty amazing to see – loved the boat lift in the closet.

4.Take the kids to Hill Ridge Farms. Oh my, do they love this place!

5.Plan last minute details for our trip to Williamsburg. (If you have any tips for Williamsburg, please let me know!) I have been reading alot about Williamsburg, but still don’t feel like I am super prepared. Owen absolutely LOVES history, so I know he will love it. Harrison pretty much loves just being with is brother and so I know he’ll have a great time.

6.Carve pumpkins

7.Make apple cider from Tin Roof Teas.

Sun Soaked

Raleigh Babys First Year Photography

All through the year the light changes..what time it rises, what time it sets. The clouds can dictate a lot about what the light will be like at a session. The light the night of their session was just stunning, and perfect for such a sweet evening snuggling their baby girl. It was just so adorable – this little one LOVES her mama’s hair in a top knot. She just giggles! Absolutely adorable.

According to Mom..

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one? Stephen-Native to North Carolina.
Olivia- Liv was born on Cinco de Mayo after 26 hrs of labor! And she looks like her Daddy!
Alecia– I always loved the name Olivia. It was my pseudonym for an occasional latte at Starbucks:)

Does your little one have any favorites? Liv loves when I wear my hair in a top knot and shake it like crazy. She loves taking walks outside, swinging on her front porch swing and her white noise machine.

Tell me about your favorite parts of the session or why you enjoyed the session. The sun setting, the light was beautiful and getting all the shots felt easy and comfortable.

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the shoot + why you chose them. Our outfits were neutral and clean colors to go with our pictures being outside near a field. Stephen’s shirt is my favorite color on him.

Any words of wisdom you have for other moms preparing for a session? Bring toys for your babe, we forgot! Maybe pack them in your diaper bag the day before!

What baby gear has been your favorite during the first year? Portable white noise machine, Womby swaddle, Tula carrier, Little Unicorn muslin swaddles and my Fawn diaper bag/book bag

Little Blue Truck

Raleigh Fall Mini Sessions Photography

“Horn went ‘Beep!’

Engine purred.

Friendliest sounds

You ever heard.”

-from Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle

It’s no secret Ericka and I love planning and creating styled minis for our clients. And I love the simplicity Ericka designed with the apple baskets and flowers. This one was just. so. PRETTY. We were so happy to have beautiful weather both days (yay for no rain!) These just went so smoothly, I think all the little ones just thought the truck was so much fun. The hilarious part was the apples….everyone wanted a snack during the session – ha! And those images are adorable, too! These minis take a lot of work – location scouting, finding private property, getting permission, finding the truck, prop shopping, and in the end, it’s so so worth it! These came together beautifully, and I love the color palette Ericka chose for the flowers. Everything was perfect. So many more to share soon, but super excited to post a preview. For more information on other fall minis – send me an e-mail (becky@rebeccakellerphotography.com) Thanks to everyone who came + made this such a fun weekend!

Weekday Morning Sweetness

Raleigh Family Lifestyle Photos

This was the second time I’ve photographed this sweet family in their home. Sessions at home are great because you can take your time getting ready, there’s no rushing out the door to get to a location, and you have everything you need at home. You’re not going to forget anything! It was such a sweet morning at home, and so fun to photograph both of their babies!

According to Mom..

What kind of feel did you want for your session? I just wanted a fun, loving session at our home of our new life as a family of 4.

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one. Jonathan is a fabulous daddy. He loves snuggles with his kids. Lillian (2) loves dressing up as a princess. Jack (6m) loves his big sister.

What was the weather like the day of the session? The morning started off cloudy but got sunny as the day went on.

What was the best part of your session? I loved just being together. Our lives are so crazy with travel, work, preschool and naps schedules. It was great just taking the time and making each other laugh and smile.

Tell me about the outfits you wore at the session. Jack decided he didn’t like his first outfit. Before we even took our first photo Jack threw up all over it. He changed immediately into outfit number 2.

What props did you bring and why? No props….just Becky and Jack’s monkey to entertain Lillian and make her laugh.

What’s your favorite family weekend activities? Saturday mornings are for long walks. We walk to get bagels and donuts! Then head out for a day of soccer practice and games.
