The weather was so nice the day of this fall family session celebrating their little one’s first birthday. Although right at the end, a thunderstorm rolled in. And I am seriously terrified of thunderstorms..like I just hate them. I am not sure what started my fear, but once in high school, I was driving in a terrible storm that made my fear even worse. I now feel silly saying that I’m scared of them, but really, I do not want to be in a car during a tornado or super bad thunderstorm, so if there is even a hint of a tornado watch, I will be in our downstairs closet or bathroom listening to the news. So as soon as the last image was taken, there was a clap of thunder and I’m sure I walked (sprinted? ran?) as fast as I could to my car. (And speaking of the weather, is it really 84 degrees today?!? Woo-hoo!) We were going to do a cake smash for her, which I’ll blog soon because it was way too cute, but the weather had other plans so they came out to the Christmas tree farm during the Free Holiday Minis to finish the session. You really just never know what the weather is going to do the day of a session - I feel like the forecast changes from day to day, and sometimes I wake up expecting it to be a dark, cloudy day, and it’s bright and sunny! So thankful for my clients flexibility since we have no control over the weather. I really enjoyed photographing this sweet little one’s first year, and can’t wait to see this sweet family again at the Limited Edition Spring Event at the end of April!

I love photographing families at home so I was thrilled when this mama asked me to come over and photograph some sweet moments of their family to celebrate their baby boy turning one. He has the prettiest brown eyes and was just so content to be photographed - playing with all of his favorite toys, bubble bath time, reading books with Mommy and Daddy, just his normal everyday at home. I had another Mama tell me this week how they were so happy they waited for their newborn session to give their little one’s first bath so that they could both be a part of it and not have one person who is giving the bath stressed or the one holding the camera try to get in pictures, too. This session reminded me of that - how nice it is to have someone else come to your home and just photograph your life, what you do everyday without the stress of one person always grabbing the camera. Sweet authentic moments with your family - just love these. This also was one of those sessions where I was like, I love the color, but man, I love the black and white. (so there is both in this blog post and probably a lot more black and white than I normally post, but I love them!!!!!!!!)
Today’s weather was just another reminder that Spring and Summer are just around the corner. I am soooo excited. Who else can’t wait for warm weather, evenings at the park, lightning bugs, (bug spray, especially for me. They just LOVE me for some reason) the beach, (Coastal sessions - yay!) ice cream, flip flops, and popsicles. Hurry up warm weather!

There is so much joy and love in celebrating a year. Years can come and go so quickly, but a baby’s first year, wow. It can be a very slow year but also fast at the same time. (Right? Does that make sense to anyone else?) It’s like you blink and your baby’s a year, and you have no idea where that time has gone. This sweet session was all about celebrating that joy and love for their sweet baby girl and her first birthday. Images are lifelong memories, heirlooms, and treasures - don’t forget to print your photos and hang them on your walls, put them in picture frames for your little ones to look at, or in an album to pour through together. I know my four year old loves looking at how he’s grown and changed and it gets very offended if anyone tries to change which image is in a picture frame! This mama always dresses her girls so cute, and I love all the images we got of the four of them together - joyful, happy, and full of love. And today is such a reminder that Spring is coming. (yay for warm weather!) and many outdoor sessions soon!

The weather was just gorgeous the morning of this session. I have photographed this family once a year for I think three years now, and it was so great to photograph their sweet baby girl, too! (I was on maternity leave when she was born) This location could not have been more fun - and big brother loved it - jumping and running and playing. I have usually photographed families here only in the evenings so it was fun to be at the park in the morning before everything opened. This session was in October, and it was nice that some roses were still blooming, and everything was still so pretty and green. (I miss everything being green - who is with me?!?) Although, I will admit, winter sunsets can be just so gorgeous (See here) And it is good to have winter to rest. Although I fight it so much, planning so many outdoor things I could be doing. (Going here, planting perennials, riding bikes, runs with the Bob) Okay, yes I could go on and on, especially since yesterday was just so warm! Who else was loving it? We went to the Durham Food Truck Rodeo and Owen and I waited in line for I don’t even know how long for ice cream. It was the perfect day for ice cream. And the vegan thin mint I got was seriously worth the wait! (And if you ever go to a food truck rodeo, research which truck you want to eat from before you go and get there right before it officially starts.) We went after church so we got there a little bit late and found a shorter line for food. It was a beautiful day yesterday, and I am looking forward to Spring sessions outdoors soon!
