This has been a busy week of editing, planning, and scheduling. Ericka and I are finalizing everything for fall, tracking down places + props and working on a lot behind the scenes.

A few favorites from this week…

The In My Feelings Challenge. I started watching one on facebook which led to a million and now I can’t get the song out of my head, ha! The Will Smith video is probably the best (see here)

My hair is oily in my scalp and then super dry. Especially during the summer. I tried Aveda’s Dry Remedy  this week and it’s absolutely amazing. Looooove it.

Ebay for toys. So my son is one of the biggest lego builders on the planet. He loves reading the magazine, visiting the Lego Store (we were just here two days ago during our last apple camp trip, nothing is new) and spends hours building and rebuilding. One of the things about lego is they stop selling sets and then you can’t get them. He’s currently all about The LEGO NINJAGO Movie + all things Lego Ninjago. So I introduced him to finding sets to buy with his allowance on ebay, which is amazing. You have to hunt, but you can find discontinued sets or even regular sets someone has opened and put together and then taken back apart for so much cheaper than buying new at the store. He now loves spending his one hour of ipad time on ebay. Love it.

My sister in law brought these  to the beach a few weeks ago, and my boys brought them home after a shopping trip with their Mimi. What a cool summer toy at the beach. They are super cute – see a video of them here.

The Tanger Outlets in Mebane. I am still driving food back and forth for my dad every week from the amazing Lemon Tree in Wake Forest. He is doing awesome. He’s recovered really well from his surgery + he is driving and back to work. Just eating a low sodium diet can be tough and Stacey from The Lemon Tree really works with the diet to make amazing meals. My mom and I have been trying to meet to make the drive a little easier since I pick it up at 2pm on Thursdays which can be tough driving around Raleigh’s crazy traffic. Yesterday on the way home, I had to take 147 to go around traffic to 540, then got off on 70 to Westgate to Leesville to Norwood…ha…all to avoid as much 540 as possible. Thankful I married Michael with his amazing map brain so I knew about all of these alternate routes. All that to say we met at Tanger this week and I was pretty amazed at the outlets. I feel like they’ve added a lot of great stores.

Piper’s Tavern’s Brunch. We tried their brunch Sunday and I thought it was really reasonable and delicious.

Sharing images from the beach because I’m already ready to go back. I heart summer + will be so sad when it ends! Harrison had a fun time splashing in the ocean and playing in the sand before I took these – ha!

Coastal Minis Are Coming Soon!

We have been hosting Coastal Minis for several years now, and they are one of my favorite parts of the year. So many sweet memories made. And the little ones usually just have so much fun running around, getting messy, wind in their hair, splashing, just happy. We’ve had big groups and small families, and just a really good time at the beach. We’ve even had turtles hatch during one of our sessions. Our Coastal minis are always at Holden Beach. We have a nice quiet spot where there usually isn’t a ton of people in the background which can be frustrating during a photo session. There’s also parking, which can sometimes be hard to find at the beach. If you’re interested in family photography at Holden Beach the week of July 4th, Contact us ASAP. We always have our minis the week of July 4th, and they book up quickly.

Coastal Minis Previews

Holden Beach Family Beach Photographer

If you’ve been to one of our Coastal Minis before or had any portraits taken at the beach, you will know one thing, the beach is just unpredictable. Last year we had a huge storm and a house fire (road closed in both directions so no clients could get through) right in the middle of our minis, but it was over and done in about thirty minutes, and we just kept going and finished some fun family portraits. This year, we ended up with lots of sunshine and some wind. There’s always some wind going on at the beach! When we went back another day to snap a few portraits of Ericka with her family, we were barely out there when the lightning started..I haven’t ran in I don’t know how long, and Ericka’s husband is yelling, “Run for your life,” as we all run down the boardwalk. This is the stuff memories are made of! It didn’t even end up storming just some thunder and lightning for a few minutes (enough for us to run back) and some really ugly skies. We ended our week at the beach by heading out to our favorite, Beaches-n-Cream for some big ice cream cones for the kids. They have Krispy Kreme ice cream, which is absolutely amazing. When we are at Holden, we may or may not be all stalking their instagram to see when they post their daily flavors.I missed Krispy Kreme this trip..you have to be quick when they post their flavors because they do run out. One of my nieces really loved their Mexican Chocolate flavor this week, and I got my second favorite, Red velvet cheesecake. I may or may not be missing the beach right now a whole bunch, especially the ice cream. Ok, back to sugar detox and on to the sweet family portraits!

Holden Beach One Year Birthday Photos

Those Toes

Seriously? Could those toes be any cuter?! Super excited to be sharing another Coastal Mini this evening. (I know, I know, they were July 3rd. I am still humming away over here blogging and blogging) I have photographed this sweet little one since he was a newborn, and what a joy he is. Absolutely precious and full of smiles for his Mommy and Daddy. If you’ve read any of the other Coastal Mini posts, then you’d know that after our second mini, there was a house fire that closed down the road, (This sweet family was stuck and couldn’t get to us) and there was also a huge storm. They both happened at about the same time and by the time they cleared up, we were able to have this family’s mini. (yay!!!!!) And this little one, he was just filled with so much joy! He had no clue the rest of us were stressing out. Such a cutie..ok time for the images!

Holden Beach Coastal Mini

A Little Bit Stormy

When you sign up for a Coastal Session, I do try to let everyone know that the beach can be kind of crazy, especially in the evenings. We got all kinds of weather during our Coastal Minis. This was our first family – and the first two we were able to squeeze in before we had a monsoon and a house fire issue (traffic stopped both ways on the island) that held up the minis for a little bit. So, it was just a little bit windy. These two had no idea it was about to storm and just had so much fun on the beach running + playing. I just love how all of the portraits of the four of them turned out, too. This was a mini, so about 20 minutes. When you come to a mini, it starts and it’s over, and you may feel like what, did we take a photo? I love how we are able to capture so many different memories during a mini in such a short amount of time.
