Oh, this little one was just so happy and adorable at her one year portraits. (I first photographed her when she was a newborn!) She still just has the prettiest hair! It was pretty hot the day of their session (we had rescheduled before because of rain forecasts and were super excited there was NO RAIN!) but you can’t tell the weather was super hot that day! These three just enjoyed being together!

According to Mom…

Who are the members of your family and tell me a quick fact about each one! Armando – has a passion for cycling
Song – born and raised in NYC and loves to ride motorcycles
Nylie – spitting image of her Dad, Mom was just an incubator

What were your favorite parts of the session? I enjoyed the candid moments that were captured by us just being ourselves. You captured what we are as a family and not just posing for a picture. I will cherish the most, forever capturing some of our funny faces that we make at each other every day.

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the session. We all wore pretty shades of purple which has been one of Songs favorite colors since she was a little girl. Mando wore a purple plaid Nordstrom shirt, ond navy skinny jeans and converse. Mom wore jack rogers, white old navy skinny jeans, and a ralph lauren plaid button down shirt with a lilac Banana Republic cardigan to finish it off. Nylie wore a sweet little white Gap eyelet ruffle sleeve shirt, lilac old navy capris, and the cutest little white peep-toe sandals ever!

What are some words of wisdom you have for other families preparing for their session? Don’t get all dressed up, capture who and what you truly are on a daily basis, those are the memories I choose to preserve, not me in a dress I’m uncomfortable in and will never wear again.

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? I worried only about the weather since it was outdoor.

What do you wish for your little one? What dreams do you have for her? I wish for her happiness, no matter what she does or who she becomes I want her to be happy doing it.

What are your little one’s favorites – toys, etc? At 13 months old, Nylie has a new found love of juice boxes! I think she likes walking around with it in her hand because it makes her feel like a big girl.

What a fun session this was Memorial Day Weekend with this sweet family! The boys have grown so much! (See their last family session here and they also came to the Free Holiday Minis) We had absolutely gorgeous weather the evening of their session, and the boys had so much fun (See an outtake here) running on the beach and splashing around in the ocean. They sprinted through the water as soon as they heard they could swim at the very end of the session! They are just so sweet together – from the moment you meet this family, you can just tell how much they love each other and how much fun they have! I just LOVE Coastal Sessions, and I only offer a limited number each year. Contact me if you’d like more information about a Coastal Session in 2016.

According to Mom…

Why did you choose your session location? We love the Beach! We moved from Florida three years ago and we miss having the beach in our back yard. We had family photos taken in clearwater when the boys were just two and now that they are eight I thought it was time to have another beach session.

What’s your favorite family activity? Traveling. We love to go on vacation and taking new adventures together.

Who are the members of your family and tell me a quick fact about each one! Jackson and Nicky are very fraternal twins! Nicky is the adventurous one, Jackson is tender hearted. Jason, my husband, is a great husband who lets me have these wonderful pictures done! My Brother Tarik is fun. He came to spend the weekend at the beach with us, the boys adore their Uncle!

Tell us about your favorite parts of the session! My favorite part of the session was that it was fun! My boys love to swim and at the end of the session when they decided to get in the ocean with all their dress clothes on, well that just sums up their personalities all the way. My boys love running around, being loud and just being boys! The beach was the perfect location for that. Becky is great with kids and makes everyone feel very comfortable and natural.

Tell me about the outfits you chose for the session. I chose my dress first. Because I’m the only female in the family, I thought I had that right. Then I choose everyone’s outfit to coordinate with mine.

What props did you bring? We brought our Kites and forgot them in the car!

What are some words of wisdom you have for other families preparing for a session? Don’t get your haircut to close to the session. I don’t have curly hair, but had to curl my hair for this session because I wasn’t crazy about my cut. If you are having your pictures done at the beach, it is ok to have some color in your wardrobe. Looking back, I would have added more color to my kids outfits, especially if you have fair hair children because most things at the beach are light in color. Also, be prepared for some wind!

This was the first session that really felt like summer – it was hot! Even with all the trees and the shade, it was still pretty hot outside. These little ones were just so precious and so happy to play and run with their parents, the heat did not slow them down! This session was so relaxed and just fun, and this family was such a joy to photograph!

According to Mom….

Why did you choose this location for your session and what was the weather like the day of your session? I really like the green, so I thought that green background would make the photos great. That’s why I chose the arboretum. The weather on that day was great, but it was pretty hot for me. I was sweating from head to toe.

What is your favorite family activity? Playing & BBQing in a park.

Who are the members of your family and tell me a quick fact about each person? Roderick who is father of two little girls is an engineer and goes to a semiconductor company in Greensboro.
Mindy, its me, is a stay-at-home mom with two lovely girls, Evangeline and Ellen.
Evangeline is now 3 years old and she loves to dance, sing, and play by herself.
Ellen is 1 year old (18 months) and turning 2 in December. She is very active and energetic. She loves to play with her big sister, but she sometimes makes her sister upset and mad. I’m getting used to it.

What were your favorite parts of the session? Favorite part of the session at the most is naturalness. What we did in the session was just interacting and walking with our kids. Nothing was unnatural in the whole session. And Becky really knows how smile can be induced for perfect photos.

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the session – why you chose them, etc. I saw an family portrait during web surfing and I really like the blue theme in whole family. That gives me very cool and neat feeling. So I tried to match some our clothes and children’s clothes to make them blue. There were mostly white shirts and blue jeans and it looked something missing and boring. So, I added a pop color which is very light orange in some t-shirts and my shoes. The color was perfect accent in the photos I guess. All of children’s clothes and shoes are from Janie and Jack.

Another one of the ballet minis styled by Ericka of Little Apple Styles at The Stockroom at 230. (See another ballet mini the same day here and a behind the scenes of Little Apple Styles here) Oh, the light and this little one was just loved twirling for her ballet portraits. She was so excited and her sweet little personality just shines through in all of these images. How can you not have fun when you are twirling and dancing?!?

According to Mom…

Who was being photographed and some facts about your child? Eva – my little ballerina. Miss E’s recital is coming soon. She is getting a trophy this year and she has been counting down the days. She is my little rattle – she sings and dances all day. Her happiness is so contagious. I did not understand the meaning of someone’s smile lighting up a room until I had her.

What were your favorite parts of the session? Everything about it. Since the moment we talked about the session and the adrenaline of contacting THE perfect location. It was all so much fun. Becky was so helpful and welcoming of all the ideas. She even brought a chair from her house!

What are some words of wisdom you have for other families preparing for a session? Have fun – and let your family have fun as well. Ironically the best pictures are the ones that happen in between the one shot you are stressing over.

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? Not really – I talked to Becky before the photoshoot and I was confident she knew exactly what I was looking for.

Which image was your favorite or what do you plan on doing with the images? We used our favorite image for a recital program ad – Becky even help us adding the lyrics of our favorite song for her. We are also making a “dance” album and using one picture as a father day present.

What props did you bring to the session? I think the most favorite prop was her favorite stuff animal. We will treasure that image forever!

What a sweet session this was – these little ones were just so happy to play and dance around. One of the things that their mama wanted to capture was playing on the piano – and I just love the images that we were able to get! They had so much fun playing on the piano and with the jack in the box. Oh, and the light was just perfect – so much fun photographing these two together!

According to Mom….

Why did you choose your location and what was the weather like the day of the session? We chose my mother’s house because it has great light and is well-furnished. It looked like rain in the morning, but luckily the skies cleared for our session!

What’s your favorite family activity? We love reading books together and going on weekend adventures!

Who are the members of your family and tell me a quick fact about each one. In these pictures, we have big sister Arden, who is three years old, and is enthusiastic about everything in life and little sister, Gracyn, who just turned one and is super independent.

What were your favorite parts of the session? I enjoyed the session because Rebecca made it feel like we were just playing around. It was very relaxed and Rebecca was very flexible and had great ideas.

Tell me about the outfits you chose for the session – For the indoor pictures: I chose white for Arden because it looks so good with her complexion. I had to add the pink dinosaur necklace because it reflects her personality–girly, but fierce. Fiercly girly. Ha! Her dress was from J. Crew (crewcuts). I chose pastel yellow for Gracyn because she looks so good in soft colors. I also chose something that would allow as much of her beautiful skin to be photographed as possible. I did not want to cover her up with too much clothing. Her outfit was from Janie and Jack. For the outdoor pictures: I chose the bright yellow dress for Arden because she lives life in bright colors (from Gap), and I chose the blue outfit for Gracyn because I just love the print and it was a gift from grandmother (mini Boden).

What props did you bring? I brought a jack in the box in colors that coordinated with the outfits and it is a timeless toy. I brought a toy because I wanted the girls to have something to focus on in case they got overstimulated during the session.

What are some words of wisdom you have for other families preparing for a portrait session? BRING HELP. With young ones, you need someone helping with the subject, and someone entertaining the other one at all times, so that Rebecca can get her work done!

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? I was worried because Gracyn had not taken a nap as planned! She pulled through!
