Oh, these boys - just soooo cute together and so handsome! Their mama had them dressed so cute..and really, I’m still in shock - this session really was one of those where I left thinking, did that really happen? These three were just so so sweet and happy together, and of course, stopped for their snack breaks. I can’t believe how many snuggly photos there were of all three of them together - you can just see the joy on their faces about having their new baby brother. Looking through these photos, you can see I had a tough time deciding between color and black and white - I just looooved both! In between modeling, I love that they brought out some of their toys (I love capturing these shots when baby’s eating, etc) I really enjoyed meeting this sweet family and their sweet baby boys!

Newborn sessions at home are my absolute favorites and take a lot of the stress out of even thinking about having to go somewhere the first days at home with your baby.

Sooo many things I loved about this sweet newborn session at home in Raleigh…but one thing’s for sure, their cat stole the show! So much personality, so laid back, and not afraid of being in front of the camera - ha. Oh, and this mama - what a decorator. Their house was just beauuuuutifully decorated - loved looking at all her ideas. Sweet baby girl’s room was just gorgeous. These were taken a little bit before Christmas, so of course, we got a few with the tree in the background. I love photographs with the Christmas tree, and well, Christmas trees in general so I’m having a hard time taking ours down. (It’s not real so it’s okay) but I mean, how long is it ok to leave your Christmas tree out? I mean, at some point, it’s easier to just keep it out right - ha!

I think it was a little cold and rainy the day of their session so a nice day to stay inside and take some cozy photos with their sweet baby girl! Looking forward to seeing this sweet family again in 2015 - I just love photographing babies during their first year!

What a sweet session at home this was - right before Christmas so we were able to capture some images with the tree in the background (I love using the Christmas tree for newborn sessions in December!) First of all, this little one’s hair, oh my, adoooorable. And he was just so full of smiles for this session. I’m amazed at how many sweet little newborn smiles he had. His mama had some beautiful blankets picked out for his photos and I just adore the texture in them. As I was going through these images, I couldn’t decide which I liked better - color or black and white. I just kept going back and forth so there’s so many of both in this blog post.

I’ve been traveling a lot for newborn sessions lately and this was one of those that was a bit of a drive. It’s so nice when you have a newborn to have someone come to your home to photograph your family. There’s no worrying if you forgot anything, all your snacks are close by, it’s ok if you’re not ready exactly on time (we just go with the baby’s schedule) no packing a diaper bag, no screaming baby in the car seat - just life as normal at home. And if you’re like me, I was absolutely exhausted the first few weeks (ok months) after I had both of my little ones so even thinking about getting in the car and trying to go somewhere was just exhausting. I block out 3-4 hours for newborn sessions, and we just take our time and go with baby’s schedule. I love, love, love newborn sessions at home and capturing these sweet moments.

I will admit, I was sad for him last Christmas Eve on the way to the hospital, five weeks early, at 11:30 PM, knowing that his birthday was most likely going to be the 25th. (I did - I cried all the way to the hospital) He wasn’t supposed to be here for another five weeks, and the photographer in me was stressed that we didn’t even take phone chargers to the hospital…you totally have no battery left at 11:30PM. I did have my camera bag always ready - ha! (batteries charged and cards clean) but was pretty sure a cell phone was going to be way easier for Michael to manage. I didn’t call or text our birth photographer we had hired because I really didn’t want to take away from her family on Christmas or for her to feel bad about not coming. I am spending a lot of time talking about photos, right? I did love the photo I had of the first moment I held Owen and that was really important to me.

He was born early Christmas morning..and in Owen’s mind, it was perfect. We had told him he was getting a brother after Christmas, (you know, late January) and to him, that’s exactly what happened. His grandparents picked him up from a friend’s house, took him to open his presents at home, and then he came to the hospital to meet his baby brother, you know, right after Christmas.I did write a big post about them meeting here - it was the sweetest day ever and such a sweet memory.

There were days I wondered if we’d ever have another little one…every time I see quotes or signs about patience, I think about all the dreaming and praying for this little guy. Right from the beginning, he stole our hearts. I don’t know how many times I’ve been asked over the first year how he’s doing and I just get choked up or start crying. He is truly a blessing and watching the relationship he has with his brother is truly a gift. He is a gift and every day I am so thankful for my two precious boys. I wanted to share some sweet moments from their first year together. It has been such a joy watching them become best friends.

I am finding there are definitely challenging parts to having a Christmas birthday (though it’s only my first one) ….trying to go to the grocery store to get balloons on Christmas Eve (or really just trying to go to the grocery store at all) is just dangerous. Everyone else is ordering cakes so make sure you order early…and then really..when do we celebrate it? I am thinking at 2 1/2 we will start having 1/2 birthday parties, and if there are any other mamas out there with Christmas babies, do share how your make your little one’s day special. I do think we’ll find a day next week to be just about him, which I know Owen will love celebrating his brother. We did get a few presents that are birthday presents wrapped in separate paper, sigh.

At one, he loves scrunching up his nose, eating mum mum, saying “Boom, boom,” (his daddy taught him that) trying to eat legos, and splashing in the tub.(his favorite!)
