The Purple Flowers

Ok, I don’t know what these purple flowers were called, and I’m sure there was a label, but I didn’t take a second to see what they are called, but ok, I LOVE THEM. This is a definitely a favorite little spot, and they didn’t bloom long, but I’m going to try to come back to this spot again next year, because you know, love, love, love. This session was before all the extreme heat that’s been going on outside right now. (I don’t even want to go outside at all, not even for short walks from the car to the store entrance. I need one of those clip on fans that you wear at Disney World.) It had been a year since I photographed this sweet family, and I was so excited to meet baby sister. She was just precious, and both of them were just so chill and happy the whole session. Who doesn’t love to explore a garden and stop and smell the flowers?

The Beauty of Spring

I first met this sweet family at their maternity portraits before they were about to meet their baby girl. These two little ones have the sweetest little personalities and were just so happy to explore the park. Such a sweet morning capturing the two of them together and celebrating baby brother being a year old. We even got their sweet Mama in a few images.

According to Mom…

What are your little one’s favorite toys? Anything that has a ball, or just a ball. And he is all boy and loves cars.

Is your little one talking yet? Any favorite words? Mama all day. If he gets mad he will say Dada.

Does he have any favorite foods? Blueberries. I’m surprised he isn’t blue.

What is your favorite part of this stage? I just love watching him learn or discover new things. At this stage they grow and learn so fast!

Where are your favorite places to shop for your little ones? June and January, Target and Etsy. Love supporting small shops.

Baby toys/gear you can’t live without at this stage? A carrier, I love my Tula. And a water table!

Raleigh Sunset Baby Photographer

It’s hard to believe they grow so fast! I got to photograph him for his newborn portraits and then we got to see him at the holiday mins..and now he’s already a year old! I really love seeing babies grow and photographing milestone sessions. It was a little chilly the day of their session but this little one was still full of smiles! So sweet to photograph the three of them together.

According to Mom…

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one. Andrew Mackenzie - was in the Army and sings his marching cadence songs to John
Erica Mackenzie - have 2 younger brothers so having a little rambunctious baby boy has given me flashbacks to my childhood
John Mackenzie - first word was Woof! at the beach he saw two dogs and started Woof Woofing at them

Does your little one have any favorites? John loves Cheerios, Ten Little Ladybugs book, The Wheels on the Bus song, Happy by Pharrel Williams song, dogs, being outside and hugging his mama and daddy.

What were your favorite parts of the session? I loved the location and the light! I am glad we chose that spot because it had some variety for backdrops but wasn’t difficult to navigate. I like that you are so energetic and helpful in getting John to smile. You are efficient too and I felt like we got a lot of photos in a short amount of time which is nice with a baby and a chilly (spring?!) evening like we had!

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the shoot! I ordered an outfit for John that included shorts, but it was way too cold, so I put him in jeans and added a long sleeve onesie underneath his shirt. I had also planned to have him barefoot but got hand-me-down shoes from my neighbor when I saw how cold it was going to be.

For my husband and I, we lucked out and had clothes from our closets that matched John’s. I ordered his birthday “ONE” shirt from an Etsy shop (lil threadz clothing) that my sister-in-law uses each year for her kids’ birthdays.

What are some words of wisdom you have for other Moms preparing for a session? Wear what you like & feel comfortable in. Take the time to do your hair & makeup (get help with the baby if you need it!) and then just relax and let Becky take care of the rest! We really had a lot of fun at the session.

What baby gear has been your favorite during the first year? We love our Thule jogging stroller - we use it almost daily and is so easy to push and turn. I also love the Skip Hop activity table. And the Boppy nursing pillow - I still use it everyday to nurse John!

Those Spring Trees

If you saw my last post, you’d know I get so happy when the pretty Spring trees starting blooming. (That pretty tree was in a different location) The only thing is, in North Carolina, our pretty Spring trees bloom when it’s cold. Cold, cold, cold. It wasn’t too bad the day of this session, but many my session last night was just a little bit freezing. (And it’s supposed to be in the 70s tomorrow and 80s on Thursday, what, what!) I might be a little bit excited about this! So many babies were just born and I’m photographing a lot of sweet newborns in the next week, too! Super excited about all the babies being born in the next few months!

I’ve photographed this sweet family several times, and they are just so much fun. And sweet baby brother was turning one, so we had to take some portraits to document this sweet time. Love that there was one spring tree we could capture, too.

Before He’s One

I loooove Baby milestone sessions and getting to see how they grow and change in the first year. It was so sweet to see this little one and get to photograph him with his Mommy. He has an older brother, and it’s always so special to get portraits alone with your baby, too. (See his newborn portraits with his big brother here, so so precious!) I love how simple and neutral milestone sessions are, and they just focus on you + your baby. I love photographing all the details that change so quickly, little hands, little feet, all that baby chunkiness! Such a sweet morning with these two!

The calendar has been crazy this week..Ericka can hardly keep up with all the styling emails. We are trying to schedule everyone as fast as we can!
