It was really so much fun to photograph this sweet Mama with her baby girl. Their home was just gorgeous, and we moved through several different rooms and found a lot of great spots to photograph the two of them. This sweet baby girl is the youngest of four – she is so loved and was just so content the whole time we were there.

According to Mom..

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby girl for the first time? That she was worth every bit of pain I endured. 🙂

What was your favorite part of having a newborn session at home? Best part of having a newborn session at home was it was stress free. Not having to worry about being on time, or packing up the whole house because of what you might want for the photo session.

How did you prepare baby for the session? I made sure she had a full belly 🙂

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out? This was my first professional photography session, so I was a little nervous of what to expect. Wasn’t sure if my house would have enough natural light but Rebecca found it (even on a cloudy day) and it was perfect!!

What would be your advice to someone having newborn photographs taken? Have them done at home for one, you and baby are just more relaxed when your in the comfort of your home.

Do you have any other children? How did they react to the new baby? I have 3 other children, 11 year old boy, 7 year old girl, and a 3 year old girl. The first 2 weeks the older two children were very hands on with the baby, always wanting to hold her. The 3 year old is so independent she could take it or leave it, and she was the one we were worried about being jealous over the baby b/c she is a momma’s girl. All three love to be outdoors playing sports/playing on the swing set or playing with the dogs.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Perfect Saturday would be a nice, long walk down the Nature trail enjoying each others company.

This was such a sweet session at home to document their baby boy’s three month milestone. They have just completed a master bathroom renovation, and their little one just LOVED looking in the mirror with his mommy. I love that we were able to capture that sweet moment at their home. (Just one of the reasons I love, love, love sessions at home!)

According to Mom..

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each person?

Matt- #1 daddy
Jen– enjoying maternity leave with my baby boy #3
Graham- 3 months old , has 2 older brothers, has red hair, loves to smile

What were your favorite parts of our session?

This 3 month session was special because it was just with Graham, Mommy and Daddy while his 2 older brothers were at school so it really was all about him and not about keeping up with his older brothers. Love that we captured his smile in so many photos. Graham’s smile just relaxes you when life gets busy or hectic and we really were able to capture that in his 3 month photos.

Tell me about your outfits and why you chose them.

We just finished a master bathroom renovation (not recommended to do this when you have a 1 month old LOL) and our bedroom, which happens to get the best natural night in our house, is now calming and soothing colors, and we knew we wanted to take our photos in there (because it was a little chilly outside that morning). we picked whites and greys in our outfits that complimented our new bedroom colors…….and also goes with Grahams laid back, chill, relaxed personality.

What are some words of wisdom you have for other mamas preparing for a session?

At 3 months, time your photoshoot right after your little one wakes up from morning nap and is happy and fed.

Did you bring any of your little one’s favorites to the session?

It was also fun to dress him in the same green polo shirt that both Ben and Zach wore at 3 months for some of the photos.

What is your wish for your little one?

That he can look back on our 3 month photos and know how much Mommy and Daddy love him!

It was absolutely gorgeous the evening of our session, and these two sisters were just so adorable together. I love how you can see their sweet personalities in all of these images and, I love, love, love sessions with pretty light at the end of the day. The little bows the girls had in their hair were sooooooo cute and we were able to capture so many fun images of this family. I love using this location because you can get some images with the pretty field and also a few with the water in the background. I have been here a lot lately and also saw several deer across the water – just so cool. Spring is starting to get really busy around here and the summer, too! If you’re thinking about booking a newborn or family session this summer or fall, contact me for more information! (And if you have already booked a session and have not planned a date, please let me know soon, especially if you are thinking about a fall session.)

It was such a joy to be able to photograph my sweet niece’s newborn portraits. It was a rainy day the morning of their portraits but big sister was super happy when I arrived and so excited to show me her baby sister. We were able to get so many sweet images and I love the one of the girls napping we were able to sneak in at the end before big sister woke up! These really were so much fun (love the one of my niece staring at herself in the mirror – ADORABLE!) And the two of them together, just precious. We sang a lot of Sophia the First songs and were able to capture some sweet memories.

According to Mom…

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? That she was perfect!

What was your favorite part of the session? I loved that we didn’t have to worry about going anywhere, that took part of the pressure off of us, especially with a two year old at home as well. We could change their outfits easily and my two year old could take a nap when she was done with her part. I also love that the colors of everything go so well hanging on the wall.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried or nervous before? It was a great experience. We got to show off our new baby and just enjoy how sweet and cute she is right now. I was nervous she might not sleep or we couldn’t get the shots we wanted, but it turned out well. Becky was really patient and helpful and knew how to get her to do what we wanted.

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? Just to relax and have fun and just get the shots you can get. The kids make the rules of the pictures, but you’ll get some beautiful pictures!

Did you have a sentimental item at our session? We had a christening gown that my mother, aunt, sister, eldest daughter, cousin and I have all worn. She was the seventh girl in our family to wear it. It is about 50 years old and has so much history and memories in our family.

How did big sister react to the baby?  She loves her sister, but doesn’t have a lot to do with her. She likes to look at her and rub her head sometimes, but is into her own things right now. When she first came to meet her in the hospital she asked if she could pet her new sister.

How would your describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Quiet, at home just spending time in the same room.

Any advice for other families picking out wardrobe? Just feel comfortable and even simple things look really cute on little ones.

Every Thursday we planned this sweet family’s newborn portraits at home, it snowed in February. Still can’t believe how much crazy weather we had in February. (but taking photos in the snow was fun, too!) The morning of their session was surprisingly warm, and they had the most perfect greenway spot in their backyard. It was just perfect. There was also a mix of partly sunny/mostly cloudy that morning that was just so pretty. So much depends on light when taking portraits, and, wow, what perfect light we had that morning!

What a sweet session celebrating the arrival of baby sister – According to Mom, “Our baby came to us through adoption, and the first time I saw her, I had so many conflicting thoughts – 1.Wow, she’s gorgeous! 2.My heart is falling in love but her birth mom can still change her mind, and 3. If her birthmother decides to give her to us, it will be the greatest sacrificial gift, and I can’t wait to share her story with her.” Jayden is also loving being a big brother (He was just sooooo cute during the session, and we may have stopped for one of his mama’s homemade oatmeal cookies! We were totally laughing because you could possibly see the cookie in one of the images) According to Mama, his baby “sissy” was crying the other night, and he came up to her, put his hand on her stomach and began singing to her. She stopped crying and immediately stared up at him – what a precious moment! These two are going to be best friends and are already just so sweet together.

A few questions answered by Mom

What was your favorite part of the session? Becky is so fun, down-to-earth, talented and gifted. She made our session fun and had a great balance of offering ideas for the shoot, as well as seeking to understand what shots were important to us.

Were you nervous or worried about your newborn session? It was a great experience. I wasn’t nervous or worried. It turned out very well. At first, I thought the pictures wouldn’t look “newborn” because they were taken when she was about 5 weeks old, but I actually liked the way the pictures turned out better, since she had some more meat on her bones than when she was first born

Did you have a sentimental item at your session? We used a blanket with her name Kenna Grace, which means “Beautiful Grace.” We feel as if her entire adoption story is a picture of beautiful grace.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Spending time outside in the warm sunshine. Being together as a family, taking a picnic, going to the pool, grilling out, just being together. (And they have the perfect backyard for being outside!)
