Raleigh Outdoor Newborn Photography – Perfect Morning on the Greenway

Every Thursday we planned this sweet family’s newborn portraits at home, it snowed in February. Still can’t believe how much crazy weather we had in February. (but taking photos in the snow was fun, too!) The morning of their session was surprisingly warm, and they had the most perfect greenway spot in their backyard. It was just perfect. There was also a mix of partly sunny/mostly cloudy that morning that was just so pretty. So much depends on light when taking portraits, and, wow, what perfect light we had that morning!

What a sweet session celebrating the arrival of baby sister – According to Mom, “Our baby came to us through adoption, and the first time I saw her, I had so many conflicting thoughts – 1.Wow, she’s gorgeous! 2.My heart is falling in love but her birth mom can still change her mind, and 3. If her birthmother decides to give her to us, it will be the greatest sacrificial gift, and I can’t wait to share her story with her.” Jayden is also loving being a big brother (He was just sooooo cute during the session, and we may have stopped for one of his mama’s homemade oatmeal cookies! We were totally laughing because you could possibly see the cookie in one of the images) According to Mama, his baby “sissy” was crying the other night, and he came up to her, put his hand on her stomach and began singing to her. She stopped crying and immediately stared up at him – what a precious moment! These two are going to be best friends and are already just so sweet together.

A few questions answered by Mom

What was your favorite part of the session? Becky is so fun, down-to-earth, talented and gifted. She made our session fun and had a great balance of offering ideas for the shoot, as well as seeking to understand what shots were important to us.

Were you nervous or worried about your newborn session? It was a great experience. I wasn’t nervous or worried. It turned out very well. At first, I thought the pictures wouldn’t look “newborn” because they were taken when she was about 5 weeks old, but I actually liked the way the pictures turned out better, since she had some more meat on her bones than when she was first born

Did you have a sentimental item at your session? We used a blanket with her name Kenna Grace, which means “Beautiful Grace.” We feel as if her entire adoption story is a picture of beautiful grace.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Spending time outside in the warm sunshine. Being together as a family, taking a picnic, going to the pool, grilling out, just being together. (And they have the perfect backyard for being outside!)
