Oh, this big sister was just too cute during this sweet family maternity session in Raleigh. We met one evening during the golden hour (you know me, I love sunset) for some images capturing the last few weeks before becoming a family of four. Three is such a fun age and I know she’s going to be such a great big sister to her baby brother. I’ll be photographing his newborn portraits soon – so exciting! We spent a lot of time exploring the arboretum. There were a lot of squirrels running around, and we also spent some time looking for treasure.
I just love how special the last few weeks are before meeting your baby. (And since we’ve had baby number two, I so cherish the family maternity portraits that we have.) I really love capturing the miracle of a new baby during Maternity and Newborn sessions – just so sweet and such a joy. Speaking of newborn sessions, August, October, and December are fully booked. There’s one more newborn spot for September and one for November. Contact me for more information!

One thing about newborn sessions, since they are indoors, is that they don’t have to be rescheduled due to weather. (Rain, etc.) In fact, some of my favorite sessions have been on dark, rainy days. It started out sunny and bright for this session and then clouds came out of nowhere. We got the best of both lighting – and you know I just love black and white images on cloudy days – so pretty! This was such a sweet newborn session at home with their baby girl, and this little one’s mama decorated her nursery just so cute! Love it! Their puppies were very welcoming and friendly, and I was glad we were able to take a few images with them, too. Such a sweet family, and I love soo many from this session!
Why do I love newborn sessions at home so much? You don’t have to rush around to try to get somewhere with a newborn. (which can actually be quite stressful. I remember around 7 months ago trying to plan several hours ahead just to go somewhere) I can help with picking out wardrobe if needed. Photos in the nursery – like below (their nursery had a lot of light) Let’s see, what else…you can include your family pets. OH, and probably the best part, you can change into yoga pants after family portraits (yay!) and have snacks and relax while I photograph just the baby.
Speaking of newborns, it’s about to get realllly busy around here. So excited about so many newborn sessions in the next few weeks. And right after that, it will be family fall sessions (yay!) And yesterday, I announced something on instagram about a contest – coming soon!

It is raining (Oh my, so much rain today!) so it’s the perfect afternoon to sit down with my coffee and watch the rain pour while blogging this sweet session. The boys are also having a matching pajama afternoon which Owen just thinks is the coolest….You may not believe it, but I am one of those people that the idea of photographing a family with six kids just doesn’t stress me out. And you know what, these kids were just so sweet and such a blessing to photograph..so many hugs and smiles and a lot of laughter. I am still amazed at how well this session went and how many images I took. (well I mean, it’s a lot of people so you know, I probably used almost all of my compact flash cards.) Last year, we had their family portraits outside in a pretty park, so this mama wanted something different this year – a fun downtown location. Thanks so much to Rebus Works for giving us permission to use their space – what a cool, fun location with a variety of backgrounds for us to use and great downtown parking. (They have a parking lot – woo-hoo!) Such a neat place, and they also have a Saturday market which is pretty cool. Oh, and the light we had for this session was just gorgeous – love, love, love.
I love all of these…There is so much love, joy, and happy in this family. Their mama is such a sweetheart and if you met her, you’d want to be bffs immediately. (She truly is amazing..you can read her blog here.)I am constantly amazed at all they do with all of their little ones. (They were all dressed and out the door for Chic-fil-a Dress like a cow day, and I was thinking I was too tired to take just two little ones!) What a fun session this was – glad we took out the bubbles at the end!
