Holiday Mini Sessions at Boyce Farms this year were just so much fun. I really was in disbelief each day (these were taken on several different days) as I picked up all my props and headed back to the car. So many giggles, sweet sibling hugs, running through the trees..so many memories! And so many families were able to get their tree while they were there which was just perfect. Boyce Farms is just so pretty, and I have loved, loved, loved photographing sweet families there the past few years.  It’s such a beautiful farm owned by the sweetest family. You never know what fun events have been planned when you show up..sometimes Santa is there..sometimes a hot chocolate stand or even a food truck. They also sell wreaths and I got a mailbox hugger that was just so pretty for my mailbox.

A huge thanks to everyone who came to the Holiday Mini Sessions this year. I’m really looking forward to all of the fun 2015 sessions planned, and will be contacting all of my 2015 clients about a special event coming up soon! I will tell you….this family is really just so.much.fun. I photographed most of their family last year (a few weren’t able to come) and was really looking forward to their session this year. (All five siblings were able to come this year – so awesome!) They just show up with the best attitudes, ready to laugh, cheer on each other, make the kids giggle and just laugh when kids are just kids. Their expectations of a family session is just the best – because we are capturing and documenting their family stress free. It makes me really look forward to photographing them because of the love that they have for each other and the laughter and fun they have while being photographed. We laughed and laughed, threw leaves, changed props, squeaked giraffes and laughed some more.

I’m not sure if I’m the only one that felt this way, but I felt like the trees changed colors really late this year. This session was about an hour and a half away so I wasn’t sure just what the park was going to look like when I arrived. You know I was just ecstatic to see the most beautiful fall colors (that went with their outfits perfectly!) and a little jealous Raleigh didn’t have those bright colors yet. Could that background have been any prettier with of course, my favorite, sunset light! If you know me, I just looooove shooting with the pretty sunset light.

I will admit, I was sad for him last Christmas Eve on the way to the hospital, five weeks early, at 11:30 PM, knowing that his birthday was most likely going to be the 25th. (I did – I cried all the way to the hospital) He wasn’t supposed to be here for another five weeks, and the photographer in me was stressed that we didn’t even take phone chargers to the hospital…you totally have no battery left at 11:30PM. I did have my camera bag always ready – ha! (batteries charged and cards clean) but was pretty sure a cell phone was going to be way easier for Michael to manage. I didn’t call or text our birth photographer we had hired because I really didn’t want to take away from her family on Christmas or for her to feel bad about not coming. I am spending a lot of time talking about photos, right? I did love the photo I had of the first moment I held Owen and that was really important to me.

He was born early Christmas morning..and in Owen’s mind, it was perfect. We had told him he was getting a brother after Christmas, (you know, late January) and to him, that’s exactly what happened. His grandparents picked him up from a friend’s house, took him to open his presents at home, and then he came to the hospital to meet his baby brother, you know, right after Christmas.I did write a big post about them meeting here – it was the sweetest day ever and such a sweet memory.

There were days I wondered if we’d ever have another little one…every time I see quotes or signs about patience, I think about all the dreaming and praying for this little guy. Right from the beginning, he stole our hearts. I don’t know how many times I’ve been asked over the first year how he’s doing and I just get choked up or start crying. He is truly a blessing and watching the relationship he has with his brother is truly a gift. He is a gift and every day I am so thankful for my two precious boys. I wanted to share some sweet moments from their first year together. It has been such a joy watching them become best friends.

I am finding there are definitely challenging parts to having a Christmas birthday (though it’s only my first one) ….trying to go to the grocery store to get balloons on Christmas Eve (or really just trying to go to the grocery store at all) is just dangerous. Everyone else is ordering cakes so make sure you order early…and then really..when do we celebrate it? I am thinking at 2 1/2 we will start having 1/2 birthday parties, and if there are any other mamas out there with Christmas babies, do share how your make your little one’s day special. I do think we’ll find a day next week to be just about him, which I know Owen will love celebrating his brother. We did get a few presents that are birthday presents wrapped in separate paper, sigh.

At one, he loves scrunching up his nose, eating mum mum, saying “Boom, boom,” (his daddy taught him that) trying to eat legos, and splashing in the tub.(his favorite!)

What I love so much about newborn sessions at home is just how much meaning is poured into each and every session. Having a four year old (and almost one year old – whoa!) reminds me of just how fast time flies by and how special it is to document the first days at home. This little one was just so content to dream away during his session and did wake up for a few photos. I love that the images with the Eiffel Tower and the huge canvas they had also of the Eiffel Tower hold so much meaning.  When I saw that huge pretty canvas, I knew we had to use it for a few photos. He also had the sweetest little play mat, and of course we got a few images with his dad’s car collection. What a sweet session this was and such a precious newborn baby boy!
