So this newborn session was very unique – they lived in an amazing old building in downtown Durham with so much history. All I could say was, wow, when I walked in. It was decorated beautifully also, and you can see so much of that in the images. I especially love the first image. (see if you can find the sweet little baby) What I really loved about this newborn session – we captured their family and love for their sweet baby boy in these images.
* One of my favorite parts of the session was some artwork I saw and asked about. The grandparents (who were there – yay! I love when there are grandparents at newborn sessions. It’s always great to have more help around!) made it (how awesome) and we were able to take some images of the baby with the artwork in the background. Love it, and of course, the images instantly match their decor, too.
* His hair. Do I need to say anything else? He was as cute as can be and that hair – so precious!!
* Ok, I love that they were within walking distance from Monuts and had some donuts they were snacking on while I was there. I had to capture that little part of the story since it’s part of living in downtown Durham right
* You know I love the exposed brick and super cool windows right? And that couch was just amazing. I love the gray texture for sooo many images
* Pets. I LOVE adding pets to sessions – they are family members, too. Their sweet little puppy was just so adorable.
* Could that Extra Small Shirt be any cuter?!?
* We incorporated so many of their things in the sessions. I absolutely love that because then your session is unique and special to you. We used their blankets, their little one’s special quilt, and the grandparents artwork – what we used had meaning to them and I loved that.

Senior Portraits – wow, so much fun, right? I photographed this sweet Senior’s sister when she was a Senior and was so super excited when they contacted me to photograph her Senior Portraits, too. Since she loves everything vintage, coffee, and crafting, I really did some research to find some backgrounds that fit her personality. I was so super excited with our first location downtown The Stockroom at 230 – it was such a crazy day downtown, too. I think I drove in the biggest circle ever to avoid some kind of motorcycle event that blocked off several streets including the exact location we were meeting. It turns out we parked right next to each other, too.
I love that the location downtown just fit her personality so perfectly and that we were able to incorporate some props into her session – a globe and vintage chair. Our next part of the session was at Suzanna’s Antiques which, of course, is one of my favorite Raleigh places ever. It is super close to me, too, so we stop by there a lot. My husband cannot park in the garage because half of it is everything I have gotten from Suzanna’s.(They also have some super fun pumpkins – green ones, white ones, so if you haven’t gotten your pumpkin, stop by) I was super excited for the second part of her session because Suzanna’s has endless backgrounds, and we were able to get some really creative images that went right along with her personality. Planning this Senior session was just so much fun!

Still can’t believe this little one is already ONE? Really?!? Already?!? ..this year has gone by so fast! He was the sleepiest baby for his newborn portraits (oh my, did you see his hair?!? So beautiful!) and was also a winner of the 2013 Image of the Year last year! (Cannot wait for the 2014 Image of the Year – can’t wait to see what images everyone picks!) This little one was just so full of personality, and just happy, happy, happy during his one year portrait session. The balloons his parents brought were so super fun and I just love the one of him in the field with the chair and balloons. Looking at these, you can just see his sweet little happy personality in each and every image. They are such a sweet family and you can just see the love that they have for their baby boy in these images. You know I love flowers, too, and was super excited that the pretty yellow wildflowers (I have no idea what they are called! eek!) were still blooming and we were able to use them for a few images during their session.
Things I love about this session:
* Balloons. Ok – I’m pretty sure most babies just LOVE balloons. Don’t balloons just make you happy? This little one sure was happy about having those balloons!
* Perfect weather & sunset (You know I LOVE pretty light!)
* The Yellow Flowers (yay! so glad they were blooming)
* Oh, and the great advice this Mama gave me about some crackers I can get for Harrison (thank you!!!) I always love hearing ideas/getting advice! Always one of the best parts of my session. I had a session not too long ago where we were discussing Costco and I totally learned about all this amazing food we were missing out on. (Have you tried the pulled pork?!?We are kind of in love with the pulled pork, the bison..ok I could go on and on. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know because I am always looking for new things to eat there!)

It’s October, a busy season for fall family sessions. It’s such a great time for photos, too, because the weather is a little bit cooler. (Sometimes it can be just so hot in the evenings in August, right!) Also a popular time because you can get a family photo right before Christmas card season. So this month has been packed out with family sessions, which is just so much fun! I have photographed this sweet family many times at different spots close to their home (and they don’t live too far from me so spots that I love using too!) so we were discussing somewhere we had not been, and this spot came to my mind. The sun was hiding behind the clouds and man, oh man, did everything look just beautiful. I love how you can see the water and pretty trees in the background – such a fun spot! Oh, and one of the best parts – they brought their costumes for some sweet brother images at the every end. How cute are they in their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costumes – adorable!

I just love images that show joy – those sweet, full of love, happy images. As a mother, we are usually never in the photos right? I know when my husband is doing something cute with the kids, I run to get the camera…and you know, I’m always behind the camera. I got to watch Owen get photographed at team picture day for flag football and it is funny to see my photographers child freeze up when they pull out a camera. (Oh no…Run!!!!!!!) I think the photographer was stressed but I reassured her that any picture of him standing in front of the football field background in his flag football uniform is going to be cute to me.
Ok, so back to motherhood. It is so sweet to have those photos – being photographed with our babies and the joy and love we have for them. I know Harrison’s first year is just flying by and I’m trying to be intentional about being photographed with him. A friend of mine recently commented on how, yes, she posts a lot of selfies of her with her kids – but they are seeing her happy with them, and wow, isn’t that so important. It was such a joy to photograph these two sweet mommas with their little ones – they were the winners of the “Win a Mommy & Me Mini Session for You & A Friend Contest.” If you don’t follow me on instagram (you can here)…when I run little contests, I usually announce them there first. The weather was a little iffy..I think they were calling for rain so I wasn’t sure if these were going to happen that morning, but so glad they did and the rain stayed away!
