I have so many lovely Greenhouse sessions to blog from our 2015 Limited Edition Mommy & Me Event. This event was only open to 2015 Clients. This location was gorgeous and the event was styled by Little Apple Styles. (and so is our next one! It’s going to be so so cute – I can’t wait!)

What was your favorite part of the 2015 Limited Edition Event Mini Sessions? It was so much fun to be in the photos with my children!

Was it fun having a stylist at the event and outfit suggestions beforehand? Yes, it really helped me prepare my thoughts ahead of time.

What did you think of the new props? I think Aidan enjoyed them… he loved the bubbles, too! haha!

Tell me about the outfits you wore and why you chose them.  Just a neutral palette of white linen and ecru lace/monogram for the children. I thought it would bring out Aidan’s hair color and and also make them “pop out” with the greenery/flower background. I was going for a “Great Gatsby”/southern look. And I chose the champagne colored chiffon dress for myself to coordinate with their clothes. I wanted it to look very soft.

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? Yes, getting there on time and the kids being happy (due to naps, etc)

What a lovely six months session this was at their home. Their baby girl was just full of giggles and smiles. I love sessions at home documenting where you spend most of your time baby’s first year. And, little ones are just so happy at home. The weather was nice and we were able to take a few photos in their yard, too. I am loving that everything is so green and beautiful now! Yay for spring and summer!

According to Mom…

Tell me a little bit about your family… Lillian- 7 months now and has 2 teeth!
Jonathan- plays soccer, owns a company in Austria, got puked on during photos, was getting fussed at the whole time by his boss during photos.
Caitlin– teaches kindergarten, is better at soccer than husband, life goal to run a marathon…i hate running!

Where was the session located? Our new home!

What was your favorite part of the session? My favorite part was shaking the toys and singing behind Becky and watching Lillian light up! Also, when Lillian puked in Jonathan’s hair. It was pretty funny.

How did you pick out clothes for the session? Jonathan’s shirt was from Vineyard Vine. He wore that to our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Lillian’s outfit was bought by her Grammie. We picked it because of the smocking and the strips that remind me of my Grandpa Meseck. I picked a neutral Calvin Klein top. I have to buy a whole new wardrobe. Nothing fits!

What are some words of wisdom you have for other Mamas preparing for their session? Jonathan kept telling me, “They are just photos. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect. If you like them great if you don’t we’ll do them again!”

What dreams do you dream for your little one? I wish Lillian to be a strong independent person that is ambitious and goes after whatever she wants. I want her to be happy.

Any of your little one’s favorites that you brought to the session? Lillian loves puffs! This is what she threw up in Jonathan’s hair. She loves the song “Wheels on the Bus” we sang it quite a bit.

This sweet little one was wide awake and full of personality for her newborn portraits. We were able to capture so many adorable wide awake images showing her sweet little personality. We also got a few images of her sweet puppies who were just so easygoing and happy while I was there. I photographed their maternity portraits right after the big snow (see here) We were laughing and stuck in so much mud leftover from all the snow that had fallen! It was great to finally meet their baby girl. Her mama had some pretty things picked out for her and a sentimental blanket which was just perfect for their newborn session at home.

According to Mom…

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? Amazement. I couldn’t believe that she was finally here. I also thought she was (and still is) the prettiest baby I have ever seen.

What was the best part of having a newborn session at home? It was wonderful having it at home because I didn’t have to stress that I remembered everything or making it on time. You were so patient with us and getting her to go to sleep! It would have been so much more stressful if we were not at home! I also liked that I got some pictures of my dogs and that the background of the pictures was my house. It makes them that much more personal.

How did you prepare the baby for our photoshoot? I fed her. Thats about all that they want!

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? If you want special items in the pictures, lay them out before hand or you will forget something. Also, there is no controlling a newborn so just go with the flow!

Did you have a sentimental item at our session? I had two items in my pictures. The first is the outfit that my husbands mom and sister wore home from the hospital. When we brought her home we dressed her in it, but in all the craziness we didn’t get any good pictures so it was great to get some of her in the outfit. I also wrapped her in the blanket I came home from the hospital with. Now I have a picture of me and her wrapped in the same blanket.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Being together. My husband and I work crazy schedules so any day we have off together becomes our Saturday. On nice days, going for a walk (usually at the lake).

Any advice to other families picking our wardrobe? Keep it simple. The main focus is the baby and family so don’t dress yourself or others in things that take away from that.

This little one was just so adorable and has three older brothers that weren’t present for this session. It was a sweet morning just focusing on the three of them, and it was great to have the grandparents there, too! The light was just beautiful in their home, and I just love the wide awake photos of this little one, too! He was looking right at me and posing for the camera – adorable! I love the neutral colors they picked out and the beautiful blankets we used for their newborn session at home.

What was your favorite part of the session? Being able to be relaxed in the surroundings, comfortably feed my baby as he needed, and also, to change clothes!

How did you prepare for our photo shoot? I made sure I got a shower that day. Also I had my make up on in advance.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? It was a great experience, I was nervous before, but once we started, it was not stressful at all. It felt very relaxed and comfortably paced. It took several hours, but I never felt rushed, even when we had to stop to feed a fussy baby. And the pictures turned out beautiful!

What would be your advice to someone having newborn photographs taken? We decided not to have all the siblings present for the newborn photos, and instead plan a family session a little later when the baby is a couple months old. This allowed for us to take our time with the baby, getting shots of him, and focusing on what he needed, rather then trying to entertain other children, or spend a lot of time trying to get one shot of “everyone” smiling or looking good. It’s hard enough to plan and work around a newborn, to try and factor other children in would have made it a lot less enjoyable and relaxing. I recommend planning a separate family photo session with siblings, and keeping the newborn photographs focused on just the baby and parents.

Such a sweet family that I have enjoyed photographing this year, and I can’t believe he’s already 6 months. This sweet little one’s grandmother flew in from France for both his newborn and six month portraits. How sweet for him to have some photos with her while she was here. Their favorite part of the session was that she could be there and also that their little one was happy for his portraits. Mom’s advice to others preparing for a session with their baby is to make sure your little one has a nap and is fed right before the session. And to bring some toys that make noise that your little one is familiar with. (They also came to the Mommy & Me Greenhouse Event and did you see the behind the scenes of Dad with all of the noise makers. He definitely had it under control!) We were also a little bit worried about the weather the morning of their session, but the rain stayed away! (This was right before it rained for two weeks straight!)  I love the image of him playing with his Mommy’s hair – he is such a sweetheart!Their wishes for this little one is that he will be bilingual in both French and English, and that he will enjoy traveling and making memories as a family. According to mama, Alexandre is very curious and observant. He refuses to nap so he doesn’t miss anything. He loves Oball toys, his Rainforest jumparoo, French interactive music toys, and looking at pictures in books while someone reads to him. He also started eating baby food purees, and he loves mixed vegetables, turkey, chicken, apples, and bananas.
