First of all, I just LOVE Boyce Farms. One of my absolutely favorites places in Raleigh – the owners are just the sweetest family, the farm is just beautiful, and it’s the perfect place to buy a tree, wreaths, and holiday decor. I have loved taking my boys to their farm every year and really treasure the photos I have of them there. Another big thank you to Suzanna’s Antiques for all their help with props for these. If I haven’t said it enough lately, it’s my favorite store. (If you are a fan of the fixer upper show like me, you definitely need to stop by and shop at Suzanna’s. There are sooo many treasures!)

These were ten minutes, and Ericka of Little Apple Styles really did such an awesome job keeping me on track so that everything ran smoothly. The kids also had so much fun with the props, and who can’t be happy with cookies around!

Oh, can I tell you that the Santa Minis this year (our first year!) were really just so. much. fun. Everyone was just in such great spirits (even when their little one might be screaming at Santa) and there were so many giggles, dance parties, and a lot of milk and cookies. Ericka from Little Apple Styles and I started working on these last year, and we really spent so much time going back and forth on theme, location, and the perfect decor. We scouted soooooo many locations and chose what we thought would work best lighting wise and ease for parents with parking, etc, and the location was just perfect. Ericka also had some great outfit suggestions/color ideas for the parents when shopping for their little ones. It was so great that they were indoors and we were not stressed about the weather at all. We worked with Suzanna’s Antiques for most of our decorations (my favorite store ever. like I really have to have a lot of self control whenever I go and not want to redecorate my entire house!) and with Boyce Farms for our Christmas tree. (what a pretty tree, too!!!)

Thanks to everyone who came and made these just so special. So many Christmas memories made this day. Of course, I love photos of my boys any time of year, but I adore photos of them at Christmas. I like putting Christmas prints up all over the house to celebrate and see how much they’ve grown. (And of course, we are celebrating Harison’s birthday, too:) Looking forward to next year’s holiday minis – save the date!

It would be hilarious if you knew how much time we spend thinking about an idea or prop one of us has suggested, if it’s the best way to go, etc, antiquing and facetime-ing  (is that a word?) at the same time, while someone is like what is she doing and Ericka’s yelling in the phone, “Go bacccccck, that’s it!!!” Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ericka for all your advice, help, craft store runs, and for going abov and beyond to help make these just so great!

    […] Oh, the second round of Santa Minis were just so special. It was such a calm morning with some little ones REALLY excited to see Santa, and some just not so sure about him. They might happily munch a cookie and wave, but no they were not going to get near him. (Harrison was definitely in the eat and wave crowd, but there was no way he was sitting on Santa’s lap) Owen brought a list for both of them – he cut out pictures and glued his list to the front and some things he would like Harrison to have on the back. From the moment I walked into their home, it was so relaxed and all three of this sweet baby sister’s siblings were just so excited to tell me about her. I will admit, I’m sharing a ton of images, I just can’t help it. There was so much cuteness of the four siblings together + then with Mom and Dad, too. This crew has so much fun together, and you can see their happy personalities just shine through in the images. I really love newborn sessions at home – we can take a variety of images and it’s always fun finding different spots in the house for photos. (Oh, and all that light, just love!!!!) Big sister was just so proud of her, too – ADORABLE. She was full of so many giggles, and their sweet puppy even let us take some photos in the reading nook. Loved photographing this sweet family – oh, and we barely squeezed in some maternity portraits right before she was born!

I was soooo excited to photograph this sweet family of five. It was so fun to photograph them celebrating turning six and also finding out that they were going to Disney World at the end of the session. (They were so excited – jumping and dancing) They found such a cute 6 (to celebrate their birthday – yay!)  and the letter C (for their last name) at a store next door which were super cute props for the session. Their mama also had super cute disney shirts/outfits picked out for them, too. It was such a fun session – these three were full of giggles and were such good sports, agreeing to every silly idea I had and laughing hysterically at their mommy and daddy.

Tell me about the location and weather the day of your session. Unfortunately, our first location choice fell through but Becky did an excellent job of finding another great location. It had a great urban feel with a bit of nature tucked in. It helped that we completely trusted Becky’s vision for us!
Weather was beautiful! Sunny and cool – perfect fall day!

What’s your favorite family activity? Bikes rides and hikes. Family Movie nights.

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one.

Scott: amazing father who loves being with the kids, avid cyclist
Beckett: Entertainer – loves to make people laugh. Explorer with a great love of adventure
Grayson: Kind and nurturing, loves shoes and books!
Iley: Spunky and competitive with a contagious laugh.

What was your favorite part of the session? Loved that our family could just be ourselves. The session never felt forced and we all had a good time. Becky was great in going with the flow and keeping our kids engaged. She had a wonderful way of capturing our true smiles.

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the session. The stylist provided a great foundation using a few pieces that we already owned but we purchased a few new items for the kids. We dressed up a little bit more than our normal everyday but still wanted to keep things comfortable.

What props did you bring and why? We brought a huge wrapped box filled with Disney balloons! Becky agreed to help us surprise the kids with their first trip to Disney! We decided on a ‘gender reveal’ style so that when the kids opened the box, the Mickey Mouse balloons flew out. This was part of their 6th birthday and I’m so glad we could capture the moment!

Randomly, Scott did purchase a wooden ‘6’ and ‘C’ at the store next to the warehouse. Becky was great and incorporated them into a few of our favorite shots.

What would be your advice to other families preparing for a session? Stay true to who you are as a family and be comfortable. And trust in Becky’s talent – she has a way of capturing the perfect moments!

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? I didn’t have any worries about the session itself – I was really anxious on how the Disney trip surprise was going to turn out. It turned out to be a great way to end the session and a moment we will have forever!

This fall was filled with rain and we kept having to reschedule her Senior Portraits, but we were blessed with such a gorgeous evening – beautiful light and perfect weather. It was a joy to photograph her senior portraits – she just laughed and giggled the entire time and really just had so much fun.  We were so excited to see a tiny patch of daisies, too, which were just so pretty! You never know if there will be any wildflowers blooming when you show up to a park, and every once in a while there is a surprise. October was a tricky month with hot/cold/rain/rain/rain and more rain, too!
