I got to spend Leap Day with these two adorable boys. When I walked in, Samuel was so excited to show me his bugs in his room and also his super awesome box. (Why do we buy them toys, right? They just want to play with boxes) We had a lot of fun with Peppa the Pig, and I had to snap a photo of the Pete the Cat artwork on the fridge that he did with his aunt. I love capturing these memories…their favorites + how they grow and change. And baby brother, well, he had no idea a photo session was going on and was just as content as can be. Love so many images of this sweet family of four!

What was your favorite part of our session? You made it very comfortable and I felt relaxed being at home!. I loved how creative you were!

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? The pictures turned out amazing!! I couldn’t stop the tears from coming as I looked at each picture! I love how you were able to capture the joy radiating from his big brother!

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? Relax and enjoy!

Do you have any other children? How did they react to the new baby? Samuel is so excited to be a big brother!

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Going to the park, playing outside with the soccer ball or writing with chalk on the side walk! Playing hide and seek!

Another session where we had to keep rescheduling because of freezing temperatures or rain, but finally I got to photograph this beautiful Mama. Love that she also brought her sweet baby along – the first baby loving on the first baby, oh, just love! I kept watching the sun go in and out of the clouds all day. (I finally had to stop looking) And, for most of the session, the sun was trying to hide behind the clouds. Oh, and it was just so muddy and add on a wind advisory. I think even with allll of that going on, we were able to capture some sweet memories. That baby will be here so soon! Can’t wait to meet him!

According to Mom..

What was your favorite part of the session? Why did you choose this location? My favorite part was Becky and I making crazy noises trying to get my dog Luna to look at the camera or at me! I chose to take my pictures in the field because I love being outdoors, and I love the way Becky is able to capture the light!

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? I was mostly worried that the sun wouldn’t cooperate, but Becky was great! She was able to find the light and tell me where to stand before it disappeared behind the clouds.

Do you have a theme for your nursery? What has been the most fun part of shopping for your baby? My nursery theme is based on adventure! I have foxes, and other woodland animals throughout the room. We also have a fun tee pee and a cozy book nook space already filled with books! The most fun I’ve had shopping for baby Lenzen has been picking out our crib. We decided to go with a light grey crib that can convert into a toddler bed and a full size bed! I think it’s beautiful!

How did you and your husband meet, and where was your first date? Luke and I met on match.com believe it or not!!!! ha ha ha! Our first date was a bust! Poor Luke took me to a beer place and found out quickly that all I drink is wine! But the conversation and our chemistry saved the day! The rest is history!

Do you have any other pets or little ones? Luna is our fur baby…she is an English lab. She was trained as a diabetic service dog, but is now retired and spoiled rotten!

What is your favorite tv show to watch together? Right now we’re watching the latest episodes of House of Cards on Netflix, but we enjoy a “fixer-upper” show called Holmes Inspection when there is nothing new to watch. We are constantly doing DIY projects together to our house!

I first met this sweet family at their newborn session. (See all the images here) The three of them are just so sweet together, and it was so fun to see just how big this little one had gotten. I love how his mama describes his personality – outgoing, happy, and curious. That was definitely him – he was full of smiles when he got out of the car and was all about exploring the field and fence. The fence tends to be a hit with this age – climbing is just so fun!

According to Mom…

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one. Becky photographed myself, my husband and our 1 year old. Both myself and my husband are pretty reserved, but Becky is really good at making us feel comfortable in front of the camera. My son is very outgoing, happy and curious and Becky captured his personality perfectly!!!

Does your little one have any favorites? He loves to clap his hands to “If you’re happy and you know it” and likes reading anything with trains. His favorite foods are avocados, yogurt and bananas!

What was your favorite part of the session? We had done our newborn photographs with Becky and they came out amazing, so I knew we had to get one year photographs. I absolutely love the pictures and want to frame all of them! Our session was at 5 pm on a colder day with a toddler who normally goes to bed around 6:45 so I was a bit nervous that we would be able to get good photographs. Becky did a great job and she truly captured my little boy’s personality. I love that these pictures capture us as a family interacting and having fun! Becky is amazing with little ones and also quick with the camera in capturing the most perfect moments. I especially like the ones of my husband and son!

Tell me about the outfits that you wore to the session! My outfit was a JCrew dress, my husband wore a Brooks Brothers shirt and jeans. We worked with Little Apple Styles who helped us find outfits from our closets so we did not have to purchase anything which was great! My son’s outfit was recommended by Little Apple Styles, and at first I thought the print would be too much, but it turned out great! We wanted our clothes to complement each other but the focus to be our son, and this worked out great.

What words of advice do you have for other Mamas preparing for a session? Make sure you wear comfortable clothes and have food/toys available for your little one! Also, just relax and trust that Becky will take amazing pictures!

What baby gear has been your favorite during the first year? I’d say our CityMini stroller is amazing, so easy to maneuver and folds up nicely for the car. It is also sturdy enough for long walks outside.

The first few months of the year can be tricky when it comes to outdoor sessions. You just never know what the weather will be like – 80 degrees, snowing, or just plain cold. We had to reschedule a few times for the weather, and we weren’t sure if it was going to work out this day. I think there was even a super low chance of rain, but it just started looking dark around the time of their session. We moved quickly and then it started sprinkling. By the time we were walking to the parking lot, it was raining. This mama looked stunning, and these two were just so sweet together. Can’t wait to meet and photograph their baby soon!

Oh, I just love the books we picked out to read this month and so do the kids! We got these the very beginning of March and Harrison already has I Am a Bunny memorized. I love sharing my love of books and reading with my little ones..to see them get so excited about books and see their eyes light up when reading. Everyday, after I make my bed, I leave all the books we are reading there, and the boys have so much fun climbing up and reading during the day. It’s so sweet when I don’t know where they are, and I catch them reading together. Melts my mama heart.

wake forest family photographer_0792P I N this to pinterest

What we’re reading in March…

1.One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish  Since it’s Dr. Suess’ birthday this month, we picked one Dr. Seuss book. And this one is just so fun, and I am always impressed by Dr. Suess’ imagination. The boys have read this one over and over.

2.I Am a Bunny. One of my clients brought this to a session – it’s from an older golden book they read when they were little. Oh, IT IS THE CUTEST. My boys have love, love, loved this board book, and the fact that Harrison already has it memorized… It’s cute, and goes through where the bunny lives and all the seasons. ADORABLE.

3.Too Many Carrots – I haven’t seen too many books that go through the different kinds of houses/where animals live. This is a cute story about a bunny who has too many carrots and ends up moving from house to house.

4.Wolfie the Bunny – the boys have loved the bunny saying over and over that his wolf brother is going to “EAT THEM ALL UP!” A wolf was left on their doorstep and these bunnies adopt him – The story is cute about the wolf and his big sister.

5.The Easter Egg – this book was a good one for Owen. He loves looking at the pages and predicting what’s going to happen.I love how the story is around a bunny who keeps a robin’s egg safe. Such a sweet story – love the ending.

6.Duck & Goose, Here Comes the Easter Bunny! In this board book, these two, (A Harrison favorite) are on a search to find the Easter Bunny.
