Cary Hospital Newborn Photographer | Love at First Sight

It can be hard to plan a session where the siblings meet, because of the unpredictability of birth and all, but oh my, I love when I get to photograph the siblings meeting. When this Mama first contacted me, I was sooo excited + so glad we were able to work it out. This sweet little one came the day before planned and so we moved things around to make it work. When I first arrived at the hospital, big sister wasn’t there yet, so I was able to photograph a few pictures of just Mom and Dad with baby first before dad met big sister in the lobby.

I may have overshared a million images from this session and it was just really hard to narrow down which ones to blog. It was genuinely love at first sight for this big sister + it was just so precious to capture. Thank you, Sarah + Dillon, I loved photographing your sweet family!

According to Mom….

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? Sarah: She’s so small and floppy!!
(She was much smaller than my firstborn – and I think having a toddler around at home, you just forget how tiny they are at the start!) Dillon: I thought she was really pretty and small.

What was your favorite part of our session together? Sarah: The shoot was truly a lifestyle shoot. The moment my older daughter met her baby sister was captured perfectly, and having Becky there didn’t detract from the moment at all…she was so easy going and really let us have our own special time, but preserved it for us! Dillon: I loved the flow of it. It was natural.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried or nervous beforehand? I was more worried that my 1 year old would be distracted or interested in the camera/photographer and not be herself. But you did a great job! The moments were so real and so special and organic, but you did prepare us enough to have good light and to be sitting at good angles – I felt like it was truly lifestyle photography, but it was more polished because of your input. What surprised me the most was my reaction to the images. I cried when I got them back!

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? Just relax and enjoy the moment.

Do you have other children? How did they react to the baby? Naomi – age 1.
She is obsessed with the baby. She is always sharing her stuffed animals with her and piling blankets on top of her. She also shoves the passy in her mouth, even if she clearly isn’t interested. Whenever the baby makes a noise, she runs over to me and lets me know. In the morning, as soon as she wakes up, she has consistently (for nearly 3 weeks now) said, “BABY!!!” and runs around the house looking for her! I took her to the bank and left the baby at home with Dillon, and Naomi cried the whole way to the bank and asked for the baby.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? We love being outside and going for walks. We also love brunch buffets! We either make one at home, pack one as a picnic, or go out and eat at one.
