Capturing baby’s first year is just so special – I love sweet simple portraits to capture their milestones and how they change and grow so quickly over the first year. It was hard to believe it had already been six months since this little one’s newborn portraits! It was so fun to see her sweet little personality just shine. She brought her favorite toy (the giraffe that squeaks..whenever it makes an appearance at a photo session, there are sure to be smiles!) Her mama had a super pretty dress picked out for her and we also took a few in a simple white onesie – just so sweet.

Studio Mini Sessions are offered at a discounted rate as a part of baby’s first year. (Contact me for more information about newborn sessions and baby’s first year.) The first client event of 2015 will also be held at the studio in a few weeks. (Sooo excited!) I have a few fun events planned for clients this year – can’t wait! And if you are thinking about booking a newborn session, don’t wait! So excited about all the sweet babies I get to meet this year!

Oh, and a few things coming up – The 2014 Image of the Year is also coming soon – Voting starts Monday evening! Also, all Costal Sessions on Holiday weekends are booked for this year, but if you are planning a trip to the coast this summer and would like to plan a session at Holden, contact me as soon as possible to set up a date.(All Coastal sessions are at Holden Beach without a travel fee. If you’d like me to travel to your beach for a session, contact me for more information about travel rates.) Last year’s Coastal Sessions (see here) were just so much fun, and I’m looking forward to this year!

There is so much joy in the first days home with your baby. It is just so special to have photos at home with your little one (and so great to just stay home and not have to go anywhere for photos)  and oh, I just love these. You can just see the joy and love they have for their baby girl in all of these. They also had just the sweetest puppies that were doting over their baby sister and amazingly stayed still for a few photos. It is fun to include the whole family in the session – these two just rocked it out and we did have an extra family member for help. It’s always nice if a grandparent, sister or friend can be around to help you the day of your session (or really anytime when you have a newborn!) We also found such a pretty basket in their house to use for their session – it’s always so special to use your things that match your decor and have meaning. Such a sweet family and I loved so many from this session, it was hard to pick which ones to blog.

Remember these two sweethearts? I photographed their engagement portraits not too long before squeezing in Brooke’s bridal portraits a few weeks before their beautiful December wedding. When we took their engagement portraits on the farm where they would be living, we discussed the idea of a swing for Brooke’s bridal portraits, and when I showed up a few weeks later, Matt had put one up. So special that both their engagement portraits and her bridal portraits were taken at their home…and where Matt had proposed. Brooke just looked absolutely stunning – she is beautiful inside and out and one of my oldest and dearest friends. I was thrilled that I was able to take their engagements and her bridal portraits.

I don’t photograph many bridal portraits so it truly was special, and that she was a dear friend, too, made it even more special. Her sister in law and mama were there to help, we spent so much time giggling, laughing, fixing hair and of course, swinging. It really flew by quickly so we had to rush off to our second location right down the road where their reception was held. It was definitely a little cold so Brooke was a trooper, but we could not have asked for a more gorgeous sunset that evening…add in the water – perfect. Just perfect. They got married 12.13.14 – such a special day, the sweetest couple, and beautiful bride!

We took these right after Christmas to celebrate their sweet baby boy’s first birthday, and, oh my, the winter sunset was just gorgeous. Even though all the trees have lost their leaves, you can still get a gorgeous sunny background in winter. They also brought their adorable puppies who were just so cute in their little sweaters! If you look through my blog, you’ll see so many families who have included their pets in their session. For sessions outdoors, I usually just recommend bringing an extra person to help. We also pick a location that allows pets, and this one is one of my favorites. I just couldn’t get over how gorgeous the light was this evening. Their littlest just turned one and so he had a sweet cupcake at the end, and big brother had so much fun running around and giggling. Such a sweet family, and I’m so glad we were able to squeeze this session in after the holidays.

I just love everything about this sweet newborn session in December. One of the things that I just love about custom newborn sessions at home are that they are just that – custom. Those first days at home with a newborn – they just eat and need so much attention that you barely have time to think about your newborn session. (and add the fact that you aren’t getting much sleep!) The great thing about newborn sessions at home is you don’t have to pack a hundred things to go somewhere – I simply show up and look around for the best light and we usually pull things from your home as backgrounds, etc so that the session truly matches your home and your style.  I love how this session not only shows how much love they have for their sweet baby girl but will also look just gorgeous on their walls because it matches their home perfectly. And of course, I love using the Christmas tree for background during December newborn sessions. I have loved seeing everyone’s baby’s first Christmas ornaments and photographing their trees!

I first met this sweet family for their fall maternity portraits (see here.) This baby girl was surrounded by so much love – just love the images that we got with all of their family, including the puppies. (Another part I love about newborn sessions at home – photos with the whole family, including pets!) Her mama decorated her nursery just beautifully – love her mobile! Oh, and one more thing, only two more days left to enter the 2014 Image of the Year Competition, so if you had a session in 2014, don’t forget to send in your images!
