What a joy it is has been to photograph this sweet family’s maternity, newborn, and now 6 month photos. I’ve also seen this little one’s smiling face at 2014 and 2015 client events. (Looking forward to seeing her again this year, too!) And she is full of smiles and brings so much joy to her family. One thing that is great about the first year mini sessions is capturing how much they change and grow, their sweet little personalities, and their favorites. This mama brought all of her favorite toys, including Mrs. Butterworth. Some of the milestones her Mama wanted to capture were playing with her toes (I looooove this milestone – so adorable!) and eating her favorite food, bananas. We also got photographs of a jumper that was made just for her by a friend and her first shoes! This mama’s advice to other Mama’s preparing for their first year mini session, “Think of things that you want to capture but don’t have enough hands to capture.” This is so true, too, since I know I always need help photographing my boys!

So remember February? The month where the kids barely went to school and it snowed and iced all month. I had one session that we kept rescheduling every Thursday, and for some reason it just kept snowing/icing on Thursday. February was the month of a lot of rescheduling! And it looks like my sessions planned the next few days might get rained out! (Rain, rain go away!) We met for their maternity session one gorgeous evening at the very beginning of March, right after all of the snow. So we knew it might be muddy. Um, yes. This session will win the award for the muddiest session. like ever. (now I am not scared of mud. I definitely get super muddy at the Christmas tree farm every year – I just embrace it because it is all about great images!) This session was definitely tough to move around in, I was pretty much stuck every time I moved my foot, and I had trouble getting my ladder unstuck. This was one of those sessions where I know I should invest in some rain type boots. (but those are so hard to move in when running around with toddlers!) Even with the deep mud puddles, this mama was not afraid, she looked so gorgeous and I just love the light in her hair! Oh man, do I love that sunset light – just stunning! What a sweet session to celebrate the upcoming arrival of their baby girl. (Can’t wait to meet her soon!) Oh, and we had to incorporate the power lines at the end since that is totally his job working with power – how cool! It is about to get super busy around here with all the warm weather coming up – wasn’t yesterday just gorgeous? I am missing that warm weather today! I often get tricked by how warm the garage is, and when I got Owen to preschool today, it was like, whoa, it’s freezing! (I am seriously cold all the time. I don’t know if I would survive in the north. My husband, however, grew up in Ohio so he does not understand how cold I am.) Looking forward to the beautiful Spring weather and fun outdoor sessions!

The weather was so nice the day of this fall family session celebrating their little one’s first birthday. Although right at the end, a thunderstorm rolled in. And I am seriously terrified of thunderstorms..like I just hate them. I am not sure what started my fear, but once in high school, I was driving in a terrible storm that made my fear even worse. I now feel silly saying that I’m scared of them, but really, I do not want to be in a car during a tornado or super bad thunderstorm, so if there is even a hint of a tornado watch, I will be in our downstairs closet or bathroom listening to the news. So as soon as the last image was taken, there was a clap of thunder and I’m sure I walked (sprinted? ran?) as fast as I could to my car. (And speaking of the weather, is it really 84 degrees today?!? Woo-hoo!) We were going to do a cake smash for her, which I’ll blog soon because it was way too cute, but the weather had other plans so they came out to the Christmas tree farm during the Free Holiday Minis to finish the session. You really just never know what the weather is going to do the day of a session – I feel like the forecast changes from day to day, and sometimes I wake up expecting it to be a dark, cloudy day, and it’s bright and sunny! So thankful for my clients flexibility since we have no control over the weather. I really enjoyed photographing this sweet little one’s first year, and can’t wait to see this sweet family again at the Limited Edition Spring Event at the end of April!
