Spring in February

It’s hard to believe the trees have been blooming so early this year….and this session, well, it was definitely an adventure! It was windy, especially for February. We ended up getting kicked out of one park (a park that previously didn’t have gates and a closing time all of a sudden did!) so we headed to another, found a spring tree and a bench, and everything ended up being so much fun. I first met this family at Sophie’s newborn portraits + have loved photographing them ever since. I can’t believe their little man is already one, (see his newborn portraits here) and such a cutie!

According to Mom..

What kind of feel were you thinking of for your session? Natural. We wanted to take advantage of the early spring and the fresh air. We always like a bit of rustic/vintage feel.

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one?

Mommy – Tracy – I’m an equine veterinarian and an exhausted working mom. I wouldn’t have it any other way:)
Daddy – John – Said he would never have kids and now is a devoted father whose kids have him wrapped around their little finger.
Sophie – Is hilarious. She loves to make people laugh and does so every day.
Jake – Always has a smile. His favorites are balls, climbing anything he can and eating EVERYTHING in site!

What was your favorite part of our session? Watching the kids laugh and giggle is always one my favorite part. Who doesn’t love seeing their kids smile?!? This was our 4th family session with Rebecca not including all the mini sessions we’ve done. I found her by luck shortly before my oldest daughter was born to do our newborn pictures. I feel like she’s been there for all our big family milestones and therefore a part of the family. We always feel relaxed and comfortable with her and nothing is forced. The pictures reflect everyone’s personality and our family dynamic perfectly. They are always amazing but also make me remember the fun we had taking them.

What’s your favorite family activity? Playing outside – doesn’t really matter where.

What was the weather like the day of your session? Eeeeek! That day was sunny and absolutely beautiful right up until 1 hour before our session when it got cloudy and super windy!!!

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the session. This session was to mark Jake’s first birthday so I first picked his shirt. The rest of the clothes were selected to compliment that.

What props did you bring and why? I brought a toy truck that belonged to my late uncle. Its a fun family heirloom
I also brought a balloon for Jake to hold but his older sister wouldn’t let him hold it…

What are some words of wisdom you have for other families preparing for family portraits? Wear clothes your comfortable in! Enjoy yourself and have fun. Don’t stress if the kids aren’t cooperating. Be flexible. Rebecca is amazing at capturing the happy moments.

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? I was definitely worried a bit about the windy weather and my hair, lol. We also found out 30 min before our session that the park we were going to closed at 5 which was the middle of our session. In the end none of it mattered. We just rolled with it and we got some beautiful photographs and some good memories.

Baby Lamb Minis

Winterpast Farm Wake Forest Photographer

Oh, this sweet lamb Benjamin at Winterpast Farm was such a dream to photograph. He was so calm + snuggly with the kids. We also had a sweet lamb last year named Charlie Brown. (you can see him here) The forecast was so iffy for Saturday…65% chance of rain went down to 30% and that afternoon, whew, nothing! On the way home, a few rain drops hit my car, but I’m thankful they stayed away during our sessions. Some little ones were a little apprehensive about the lamb. It is amazing how big these sweet lambs are, even at 13 days old. Benjamin the lamb had such a great time, he fell asleep halfway through the sessions. Those little ones wore him out! Oh, and I loved how Ericka styled these – just gorgeous! The flowers were just so pretty. The funny thing about the farm is all the animals that wanted to eat the flowers, too! We were constantly shooing them and some little ones may have gotten Mama Lamb (she was constantly letting us know that was her baby and she might also like a flower) or a sweet duck who was drinking from the flower buckets in their portrait! Thanks to everyone who came out – these were just so much fun! So excited about our Mommy & Me Minis + Our Spring Family Minis coming up soon! (Contact us for more info!)

Special thanks to our favorite Suzanna’s Antiques & the amazing Winterpast Farm

This session was really so quick. It may have felt longer to Mom because of course these girls were giggling and running everywhere and all over the place, but I felt like we blinked and this little one year old was ready for a nap. So I asked Mom if we could capture her sleeping since it really hadn’t been that long and oh my goodness, sleeping baby pictures, loooooove. (Sleeping baby photos are just cuteness overload, and this little one, oh she was just precious.)I was able to get some photos of just her big sister too, while she was putting herself to sleep. And so glad their sweet Mama jumped in for a few portraits! Loved photographing these beautiful girls – such a joy to capture this little one’s one year portraits. Oh, and her adorable ponytail, I think I took like 300 pictures of it because it was just that cute!

According to Mom…

What kind of feel were you thinking for your session? Modern and intimate. I really wanted to capture their personalities and have some timeless photos.

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one…

Alice Sophia – About to turn 6! loves her friends more than anything, tennis and gymnastics and her little sister
Juniper Charlotte – Just turned 1, LOVES her sister, giggles at everything her sister, our little Junebug
Zack (dad) who was at work at the time:(– AMAZING FATHER!
Jasmine

Did you enjoy your session? The girls had a great time! I loved when Alice asked to have June wear her sunglasses. The picture of me tickling Alice to make her laugh is probably my all time favorite photo of us.

What was the weather like the day of your session? Cloudy and rainy and COLD

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the session. We picked simple white, again to keep things timeless and simple. The lace dress June wore is one of my all time favorites that Alice wore when she was a baby.

What’s your favorite family activity? A walk to the park and visiting Grandparents!

What was the best part of your session? The best part of the session was June obliging us with a nap for some very cute sleeping baby photos. I loved it because it was laid back, natural, the girls were really themselves, and it was easy.

Simple Morning

Wake Forest North Carolina Newborn Photographer

This sweet little one’s big brother was just so adorable at their session. Don’t you just love the image of him mopping the floor? I love capturing siblings in their rooms or around the house during a newborn session. Two year olds add so much energy to a newborn session and we really just kind of let him run the show. They are such a sweet family, and this sweet baby girl’s nursery was just gorgeous. I also loved the sentimental items in their home and the gorgeous smocked dress. I loved this session so much!

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? I was anxious for Scarlett’s arrival, because all I wanted was for her to be healthy! When I first saw her for the first time I had a rush of relief that she was a healthy, beautiful baby girl. I told her we would be best friends!

What was your favorite part of our session together? My favorite part of the session was how calm and easy going Becky was with my 2 year old Cruse! I love having the newborn sessions at home because we move around at lot and it will always be a memory of what house we lived in.

How did you prepare the baby for our photoshoot? How did I prepare for the baby photo shoot, ha! I was so thankful for Becky’s stylist, she suggested on what we all should wear and I immediately ordered everything. Being a new mom of two getting us all dressed was a little stressful but we managed!

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried or nervous beforehand? I am pretty laid back so I was not nervous, and I already knew my 2 year would do that exact opposite of what we told him. However Becky was still able to capture beautiful pictures.

What would be your advice to someone else getting newborn photographs taken? To expect the unexpected, and everything will be ok!

Did you have a sentimental item at our shoot? If so, what was it and please share why it was such a special item for you.Scarlett wore one of my dresses that my mom smocked when I was a baby. Scarlett is the first granddaughter on both sides of our family, my mom as been waiting many years of a little girl for her to pass down all of my sister’s and I dresses. I will love these pictures forever for mainly this reason.

Was there a sentimental item in your nursery that we photographed? In Scarlett’s nursery there are two picture hanging on the wall that belonged to both of her great grandmothers.

Do you have any other children? How did they react to the baby? Yes Cruse is 2 and is enjoying giving his mommy and daddy a hard time about his arrival of his sister! My favorite picture is of Cruse with his hands over his eyes while Scarlett is just content of life!

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? My perfect Saturday would be to sleep past 7:00 am! Enjoy a nice breakfast and then be outside playing, bike riding etc. enjoy a nice afternoon nap. Then hang out on our patio while the kids play.

Any advice to other families picking out wardrobe or preparing for a session? To stay neutral and simple, whatever you feel comfortable in. I really enjoyed Ericka’s suggestions!

Rawr

Downtown Hillsborough Family Photography

I first met these two adorable boys at our 2015 Holiday Minis. When it was time for their family session, they were just so excited and brought their super fun dinosaurs. I absolutely loved the dinosaurs and we really were able to have so much fun with them. You may only see them in a few photos but they were right there with us the whole time. I had never been to downtown hillsborough and just loved it. By the time we were done, I barely missed the chocolate shop so I will have to go back! Loved photographing this sweet family and exploring downtown!

What kind of feel were you thinking for your session? Vintage, urban, modern? Why did you choose that? I guess we were going for a small town America feel.  We spend so much time in downtown Hillsborough and love our town – the Riverwalk, parks, restaurants, shops and constant family events…  Neither one of us is native to NC and odds are good that one day our boys will grow up and live somewhere else.  I thought it would be nice to capture us – where we are now, where we spend our time, what we do, how we look.

Bob – daddy – recipient of tackle hugs from our boys on a daily basis, works in finance in Morrisville, hobbies – swimming, exercise, reading, playing with the boys.Kerry – mommy – Director of HR for recruiting firm (part-time, out of the house), full-time mom, vegetarian.Teddy – turned 5 shortly after this shoot – loves learning about animals and especially a fan of dinosaurs and sea creatures James – 2.5 – loves his big brother, has one volume – LOUD

I loved that the boys were laughing and having fun.  The pictures are something I wanted, but it’s nice that it wasn’t a chore for them.  Teddy asked the next day when we could go “do pictures again?”

What’s your favorite family activity?
Being outside together – running around, playing (burning off the boys seemingly boundless energy)
Eating – we’re a big fan of picnics when the weather cooperates
Being with friends
Going into downtown Hillsborough
What was the weather like the day of your session?
We got lucky with the weather.  I was hoping it would be cool enough for jeans, but not so cold that we needed coats and we had exactly that.
I wanted us in something casual that looked like what we would wear everyday.  It feels like we get pictures when we’re all dressed up for special occasions, I wanted to look and feel like us.

Teddy has stunning blue eyes, so I figured that we’d put him in blue.  I have a blue vest that I live in, so that was an easy pick.  And then Ericka helped me come up with some ways to tie it all together.

Toy dinosaurs – because I had no choice.  The boys love the dinosaurs and they were a new gift from my best friend who surprised us with a visit from Pennsylvania the day before.Chocolate lollipops from Matthew’s Chocolates – everything from Matthews is amazing and having a treat at the end of the session seemed like good bribery… just in case.Little wooden kaleidoscopes for the boys – I saw them at a store and they looked like fun .Hats – Teddy loves to accessorize

hink about what is important to you and what represents you and go from there.  The pictures will be beautiful no doubt, but the reason ours are special to me though are because they “feel” like us.

Just making it fun – and that ended up being a non-issue
