Who Needs Sleep?

Chapel Hill Raleigh Newborn Photographer

So I have to tell you something really funny about me – I am the most awkward hugger. like seriously ever. As I’m writing this, I can only see my husband cracking up as he as witnessed me trying to hug someone many times. So anyways, if you need a good laugh, try to hug me next time you see me. Or save me the embarrassment and run the other direction hahahahaha. I have no idea where this comes from and I apologize if I have ever hugged you awkwardly. It’s not you, it’s me. My closest friends make fun of me and hugging, and I totally own it. I just had to share this fact about me because it makes me laugh! Ok, on to the most precious newborn session!

You can’t tell by the images, but this little one was determined to stay awake her entire session. With a lot of soothing, we managed to get her to sleep, but she did not want to miss a thing. She also loved her Grandma holding her hand, which was just so sweet. Her puppies were also hilarious, one letting me know she was boss as soon as I got there, and the other one hovering everywhere we went and wanting to be photographed. What a sweet day photographing this sweet family of three.

So let me tell you about ordering bananas on Amazon Prime Now. If I order bananas online, it’s usually been through the Harris Teeter online shopping I think, where you add each banana individually. Somewhere in my life I have ordered bananas individually online – ha, I just know it!  I was kind of in a hurry the other day (I order all my Mac Passports usually from prime now. When I’m working and I run out of hard drive space, I need one ASAP) so I’m sure I was like what else do I need, oh a bunch of bananas so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or something like that, and BOOM! 6 or 7 bunches of bananas appeared at my door a few hours later. Now a friend of mine had this happen a long time ago and I remember her telling me about all of the banana bread she was going to make, so it looks like I’m going to be doing a lot of baking in the next few days! Banana muffins + banana bread for everyone! (And thank you Jen for bringing over that awesome gluten free sugar free banana muffin the other day, I think I’m going to need the recipe!) I’m 0-2 this week if you read about my fight with coconut oil here.

So back to the topic of this sweet newborn session. I first met this sweet family at their newborn portraits for their first baby girl. We’ve had so many mini sessions together, and so it was so awesome to see the two sisters together. She was just ecstatic to kiss her baby sister – it was adorable! All the smiles you see are right after a big kissing sound! Their parents are just so laid back and go with the flow, and that makes for such a great session. Big sister ate a lot of raisins, her daddy read a lot of Goodnight Moon, and we all laughed a lot! Super fun to photograph these four and was thrilled to capture their newborn portraits.

According to Mom…

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? Relief that she was okay and joy that my labor was over. And all that hair!

What was your favorite part of our session together? Her big sister had a lot of fun and enjoyed taking pictures with her new sister. The raisins helped.

How did you prepare the baby for our photoshoot? Mani/pedi, blowout, glam squad – the usual.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you nervous or worried beforehand? I trust Becky to get good shots no matter what happens in real life, so I wasn’t that nervous. It turned out great!

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? Relax.

Do you have other chilren? How did they react to the baby? Normally Giuliana is overly affectionate to the point of injury with her sister, but she did a great job at the photo shoot!

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? No one is sick, we eat pancakes and play outside.

Simple Morning

Wake Forest North Carolina Newborn Photographer

This sweet little one’s big brother was just so adorable at their session. Don’t you just love the image of him mopping the floor? I love capturing siblings in their rooms or around the house during a newborn session. Two year olds add so much energy to a newborn session and we really just kind of let him run the show. They are such a sweet family, and this sweet baby girl’s nursery was just gorgeous. I also loved the sentimental items in their home and the gorgeous smocked dress. I loved this session so much!

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? I was anxious for Scarlett’s arrival, because all I wanted was for her to be healthy! When I first saw her for the first time I had a rush of relief that she was a healthy, beautiful baby girl. I told her we would be best friends!

What was your favorite part of our session together? My favorite part of the session was how calm and easy going Becky was with my 2 year old Cruse! I love having the newborn sessions at home because we move around at lot and it will always be a memory of what house we lived in.

How did you prepare the baby for our photoshoot? How did I prepare for the baby photo shoot, ha! I was so thankful for Becky’s stylist, she suggested on what we all should wear and I immediately ordered everything. Being a new mom of two getting us all dressed was a little stressful but we managed!

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried or nervous beforehand? I am pretty laid back so I was not nervous, and I already knew my 2 year would do that exact opposite of what we told him. However Becky was still able to capture beautiful pictures.

What would be your advice to someone else getting newborn photographs taken? To expect the unexpected, and everything will be ok!

Did you have a sentimental item at our shoot? If so, what was it and please share why it was such a special item for you.Scarlett wore one of my dresses that my mom smocked when I was a baby. Scarlett is the first granddaughter on both sides of our family, my mom as been waiting many years of a little girl for her to pass down all of my sister’s and I dresses. I will love these pictures forever for mainly this reason.

Was there a sentimental item in your nursery that we photographed? In Scarlett’s nursery there are two picture hanging on the wall that belonged to both of her great grandmothers.

Do you have any other children? How did they react to the baby? Yes Cruse is 2 and is enjoying giving his mommy and daddy a hard time about his arrival of his sister! My favorite picture is of Cruse with his hands over his eyes while Scarlett is just content of life!

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? My perfect Saturday would be to sleep past 7:00 am! Enjoy a nice breakfast and then be outside playing, bike riding etc. enjoy a nice afternoon nap. Then hang out on our patio while the kids play.

Any advice to other families picking out wardrobe or preparing for a session? To stay neutral and simple, whatever you feel comfortable in. I really enjoyed Ericka’s suggestions!

Sleeping Beauty

Raleigh North Carolina Newborn Photographer

Remember this stunning Mama + her maternity portraits? Well, their sweet little sleeping beauty has arrived. I love that she was named after her grandmother and that we used the tea towels her grandmother made during the session – just so special! This was just a cloudy day at home, and we were able to capture such special memories for this sweet family of three.

According to Mom….

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? I couldn’t believe it was real! My labor experience was long and difficult and it was just unbelievable to finally have her laying on me.

What was the best part of having a newborn session at home? I loved doing the session at home because it captured us in our natural environment. Plus it made it easy to not have to travel! We were able to take our time and work around Maxine’s needs.

How did you prepare the baby for our photoshoot? No preparation other than making sure she was fed and calm. Although as any new parent knows, that doesn’t last long! Becky was great about working with us though when Maxine needed a break to eat (or fuss:)

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried or nervous beforehand? How did it turn out? I was a little nervous about how she would behave, but overall she did great!

What is your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? Be prepared for the shoot to take a few hours and don’t feel bad about it! Becky is super laid back and willing to work with you and your baby. It is hard to control how a baby is going to act at any given moment so just go with the flow and let it take as long as it needs to take.

Did you have a sentimental item at our shoot? The pillowcases that Maxine was photographed in were embroidered for me by my late grandmother Maxine. It was important for me to have pictures taken with Maxine in something her namesake had created.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Our perfect Saturday is simply time together. I would say a big homecooked breakfast followed by a walk around the neighborhood or in the park. Then just relaxing at home or maybe a date night dinner out for mom and dad!
