We had beautiful weather the morning of this session and took pictures in a few different spots. And this little one was just so full of personality – so many cute images of him with his parents. His mama also brought a lot of his favorites, which was great – books, a super cute hat, trains, and this little one just LOVES eating fruit. His mama brought some strawberries + apples for him to eat! Oh, and she also found a four leaf clover – how cool is that? (You can read her blog for mompreneurs here) I love that we were able to capture some of the spring time color and some, sweet happy portraits of this family.

This is the last of the Canoe Senior Portraits Session – just loved this session, how unique it was, and the magical light. When you book a Senior Portraits session, I like to plan something special and unique to your personality. It’s such a fun time celebrating your Senior year, and your portraits should reflect that!

According to the Senior…

What was your favorite part of the session? The canoe.

How did you pick our your wardrobe? Where did you shop for the session? Free People. I picked out clothes that I thought would match the different settings.

Were you nervous about the session beforehand? no, I was excited.

What advice can you give to other Seniors preparing for their Senior portraits? Pick outfits that match the setting, smile, and learn how to work it for the camera.

Ericka from Little Apple Styles helped me so much with the planning of this special event for clients in April. (She also helped with a gorgeous background for our client event in February!) It was so much fun going to the greenhouse and planning. So much thought and effort went into these. We are also planning another event in August and this just so cute, one you won’t want to miss – (Contact me for more information) We went the evening before the event just to take one last look at everything, decorate, and also take photos with her little ones! The light was just stunning, and her little ones had so much fun exploring the garden!

I interviewed Ericka so you could learn more about her and what her company offers!

What is your favorite food? Peruvian food of course! Fun fact? I do not like pizza or donuts. Yet that was the only food group I wanted to eat while pregnant with Ethan.

Favorite coffee? Colombian coffee…no sugar nor cream. I LOVE coffee. Proud holder of a Starbucks’ gold card – haha!

Favorite restaurant? hmm – such a hard question. I guess I have to say Chipotle – since that is the one I visit weekly lately!

What is your favorite family activity? I am not an outdoor-sy person. But the little ones LOVE paddle boating.

When did you fall in love with styling and creating little details for events? The little bug had been dormant for a while. My grandmother, mom and aunts are so creative. So it is definitely in the genes! When I first moved to the United States I worked for the Savannah College of Art and Design – and I was lucky to have the opportunity to help my aunt running errands for the events and enjoy them while “helping”. I will just look at everything in awe. My aunt threw me the best bridal shower EVER – and then a baby shower…. So when it was time to prepare for Eva’s first birthday party – oh my! I was full of ideas. I was finally going to plan an event! haha

What are some events you have enjoyed styling? Every birthday party is so special to me – I honestly put so much thought on every detail you see. I still remember Eva’s eyes when she saw Elmo coming thru the doorway. “MOMMA, IT’s EWMO!!!!” The same Elmo that may have thought I was a stalker, because I tracked him down from facebook friends!
RKP events are so much fun. I would say that my most favorite event so far was the Greenhouse – I was able to be in site helping you and seeing all the beautiful smiles and personalities. I may not have fingerprints anymore (thanks glue gun!) but the flower crowns really transformed every momma into a beautiful fairy:)

What other services do you offer? I have big ideas for your little events! Baby showers, baptism, or birthday parties can be stressful and they should not. It is time to celebrate and enjoy. Little Apple can help create your vision – from ideas for decorations, food and entertainment to vendors recommendations. I am pretty crafty too, so if we can’t find it – I can make it! This ties so close to photoshoot styling. Little Apple can help you create the set you have in mind. Clothing and props recommendation to make your picture perfect. Do not have time to find them or buy them? I can help. Trust me, I am FULL of ideas!

What was the most fun about styling the Rebecca Keller Photography spring event? Working with Becky! I am sure at some point she thought I was crazy – I had this idea in my head and she just completely trusted me and let me run with it. A little thing you do not know, Little Apple’s biggest fan (aka my husband) drove 3 hours to get live butterflies for the event. Sadly they all flew away during our ‘test run’ (I am sure they were scared by my daughter’s screams – some things just do not go as plan when you are dealing with little ones)

Were you nervous about anything beforehand? The weather called for rain the day of the event. So that was what made me nervous. Thankfully the weather cooperated and everything was just perfect.

What planning/setup was involved before the session? First is the idea planning, Becky and I met and threw in all the ideas we had. We visited the location a couple of weeks before the event. I took pictures, measurements, and sketched what I needed to create the set. I also created a pinterest board with clothing ideas based on the theme and worked on all the props needed. Many you tube videos were involved since I originally wanted all the flower crowns to be of real flowers – I soon realized that some of them needed to be of fake flowers since our first family appointment was at seven in the morning!

What events do you have coming up, and how can clients contact you? Can I REALLY tell them? I wish I could share every single detail…. This is what I can say. One is VERY cool and you would not want to miss it and another is in the happiest place on earth to celebrate someone’s birthday!
We are super busy with a ballet recital celebration next week and a train lover birthday party…so much fun!
We can be found on facebook and instagram – or via email littleapplestyles@gmail.com

Thank you, Ericka, for how much thought and time went into this event to make it just so special!

I was so excited to photograph the sweetest little ballerinas at The Stockroom at 230 in downtown Raleigh. It is such a beautiful spot – love the brick and the windows. They are so great to work with and are so busy with weddings and events – I was so glad we were able to use the space! I’ve been photographing this little one since she was three months old, and she was just so adorable for her ballet portraits. Her mom had mentioned something to me about ballet portraits in February, and I’m so glad that we were able to plan this day to capture them. (See behind the scenes here and here) Ericka with Little Apple Styles did an amazing job with her hair, and this little one just loved putting her ballet shoes on which I thought was the cutest ever. I love photographing little ones just happily being themselves!

When Michele first mentioned a Pinkle Toes Workshop Reunion in Charleston, I jumped at the chance for her to photograph our family there. Michael proposed in the gazebo at the battery, and oh, how special to have a photo of the four of us there. And to have Michele photograph our family….eeeek and yay!!! Michele is such an amazing photographer – so creative and fun, and it was awesome to have our family photographed by her! So not only did we go through all of the normal session planning, but I also had to figure out a route of Charleston downtown for our session, figure out how to check in, get Michele from the airport, and be at the house for my hair and make up to be done. Michele is a rock star – this is kind of how the day went. We arrived in Charleston around 12:30 and ate at Jack’s Cosmic Dogs. Michele had been messaging me that her connecting flight was delayed…still delayed… It was also starting to look dark and cloudy. (I did not mention this to Michele. Weather.com’s hourly forecast looked promising that the sun would come out. You never know if it’s going to happen or not the way the forecast says but I just kept hoping.) We then were able to get the key to the beach house where we were all staying early at 1:50 (they weren’t sure how early we could get that day, even told us 3PM was a maybe) We got to the house and brought our stuff in. Michael then drove thirty minutes to the airport to pick up Michele and another friend who flew in early from Denver for the workshop reunion.(Husband of the Year) I had twenty minutes from when we got to the house until hair and make up got there. *I highly recommend having your hair and make up done for your family photos. We barely had a minute to spare to have mine done. It was such a great experience – she very quickly put my hair up, and I’ve never had airbrush make up before. lovvvveddd it. So I basically didn’t have to get ready at all, and everytime I look at the pictures, I’m so glad I had it done. I also liked my hair up because I didn’t have to worry with it and could just focus on having fun with my boys. The jasmine was blooming everywhere in Charleston and we put some in my hair which was special, and I loved that we were able to capture it in the photos.Thank you to my friend Brooke who convinced me to wear the blue and coral dress that I probably would have never tried on. And huge thanks to Little Apple Styles for helping me find three boy outfits to match PINK. Kind of a miracle – thank you, Ericka!

So you can see, a lot of work went into this day and it’s kind of amazing that it happened. Harrison was also teething really badly so thank goodness he took a nap on the way downtown and woke up refreshed for his portraits. Owen and Michele were also bffs right from the beginning.(see here) And our session, well, it was just plain FUN. We started at the gazebo where Michael proposed because it was important to me to have a photo there. One of the reasons I love looking at the photos – these boys are my dream come true. I didn’t know all those years ago when I was pouring my heart out praying for my husband that these sweethearts would be such a dream come true. How special to be able to come back here with our family at the spot where Michael proposed. When I told Owen the story of Michael proposing, he said it was “the loveliest story he’d ever heard.” I love the images at the gazebo – my sweet boys – so many answers to so many prayers. The photos capture our family and our little ones’ personality so perfectly, and I love, love, love them. Michele captured us together – just being happy, and just being us. When Michele sent me the link, I was standing in Whole Foods waiting on a smoothie, and the tears just poured. What a treasure these are!

After the gazebo, we strolled down Bay Street I think, and the photographers that we are, Michele and I were oohing and ahhing over all the pretty sights and the absolutely stunning light. (The clouds went away- yay!)  So we just kind of stopped and took a few photos, and walked a little bit more, snapped a few more photos, walked a little bit more. Michele, of course, had all kinds of amazing ideas to capture the light, the beautiful Charleston background, and our family. Someone was at Rainbow Row so we went down another street and then came back. (And did she not take the coolest photo ever of Rainbow Row. I’m so excited to have a big canvas of it!)  We ended our session at the Waterfront Park in the Pineapple fountain which Owen LOVED. He couldn’t wait to put on his shades, splash around and try out his new sailboat. Harrison however…was not so impressed. I am shocked Michele got one image with his sunglasses on! Afterwards, we got some Belgian gelato to celebrate!

It’s kind of amazing how much we squeezed into one session, and it was. so. much. fun. It was fun being a client, too! And now I have to start planning where I am going to hang all out these photos – I can’t wait!
