I met this sweet mama when Owen was 6 weeks old, within minutes of the first time I had left the house to go for a walk. She has such a warm personality that you instantly become her friend. I always love her ideas for their family portraits, and this one was just too cute. They have spent their whole summer at the pool and wanted to capture that in their family photos. I also love how they wanted certain things captured – like buying a special treat, eating watermelon and looking in the skimmer. (Is that what you call it?) We took these on one of the last possible days that the pool was open – and it was a beautiful sun filled evening. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. Isn’t he just too cute in his goggles?

Oh, Becky! You just did it again! Captured our most important moments as magic, I was there living through it but would have never in million years done it so amazingly. That is your talent and I am very grateful for it!ReplyCancel

This was one of those perfect mornings on Atlantic Beach – the sun rose slowly (and oh so beautifully) We just had such glorious light, and these little ones were extremely happy just to run around and giggle and laugh with their family. I really don’t think this session could have gone any better especially since they got up so so early for this session. Love that we were also able to capture some fun portraits with the pier.  I hope this is a special memory for these little ones – all the laughter, the trip there and back, and the special treats they got on the way home. I love, love, love, sessions at the beach, even though lighting and picking a time can be tricky sometimes. It wasn’t even that windy that morning which was incredible. Looking forward to more Coastal Sessions next year! I’ll be announcing 2014 Coastal Sessions in January – so stay tuned.

Another session before the beautiful yellow flowers had finished blooming. I returned to this same spot this week and the whole field had been mowed. (um, yes, I was super sad.) Now that the flowers are gone, I’m really looking forward to the trees changing colors (hurry up, trees!) and I was so glad we were able to capture this sweet family’s session celebrating their little one’s first birthday before the flowers were gone. We had perfect weather – such a gorgeous evening for some fun family portraits at sunset. And of course, seeing these two boys together was just so sweet and made me even more excited about Owen meeting his big brother soon. Thankful for so many fall sessions coming up – hoping the time flies until January. And if you haven’t booked a holiday mini session, they are FREE when you book a full session in 2014. (More information here) I only have a few spots left so contact me soon if you’d like to book one!

Just wanted to post a little update about Mr. Man’s eczema. Thanks so much to everyone who has offered solutions, remedies, given me samples, and just asked how he’s doing.  He had a little bit of eczema when he was a baby, not bad, but I first noticed it getting worse the day of his second birthday party. I thought he might have a rash or be getting sick. We spent a lot of time from two to three at the doctor, trying different things, seeing an allergist. Finally, this summer, it got even worse. He was bleeding and scratching constantly – it was hard for him to sleep. The only relief he got was from spending time at the pool. (For some reason the chlorine helped his skin) I met with his pediatrician, we switched allergists and are now seeing a dermatologist. We have tried it all – diet elimination, essential oils, coconut oil, you name it. The new allergist re-tested him for allergies a few weeks ago. He was soooo brave, and they even gave him a chocolate popsicle which I thought was pretty awesome. I was certain he was going to have an allergy to something but sure enough, every single one came back negative. I was assured by his doctor than any allergy would show up at this point. Meanwhile, the dermatologist we have seen is just incredibly awesome. Our appointments are about fifteen minutes long. (From when we walk in the door, which is pretty much amazing.) I don’t feel rushed, we don’t wait in the waiting room, and the doctor spends enough time with us.  The first medicine she put him on cleared up his skin – no bleeding or itching. It felt like a miracle.  I really couldn’t believe how much better it got. She also recommended a lotion that has worked wonders – still can’t believe it. He’s had a little flaring on his hands and feet since we first saw the dermatologist (you can see his little red fingers holding on to the monkey bars) but nowhere near what he had to deal with on a daily basis and the lotion is really making a difference, better than any other lotion we had tried.

So, really thankful that Mr. Man is doing better, that we have found a dermatologist that we love, and thanks to everyone who had tried to help in so many ways! (And no, he is not going across the monkey bars by himself – his Uncle Patrick is holding him. Owen thought it was the best thing in the world!

Will keep everyone update and if you have any other eczema suggestions, please let me know!

Glad he’s feeling better (and that Patrick was holding on to him)! Our dermatologist recommends Eucerin lotion. Don’t know if that’s what yours recommended and I certainly wouldn’t try anything different if what you have is working! Good luck! Hope everyone is well.ReplyCancel

I love photographing the first year and all of the milestones – such a sweet time seeing how they grow and change. I first started photographing this sweet family here. (and here and here) Such a sweet session in Wake Forest and how sweet are these two sisters together? Way too cute, and I love how little sister brought her own chair to the session. Can’t wait to see her little personality over the next year! For more information on newborn and first year sessions click here.
