Raleigh Outdoor One Year Portraits Photographer – Those Gold Shoes

This little one’s Mama is just so stylish, and she dressed their little one in the cutest gold shoes. Hard to believe she’s already one year old! (See her newborn portraits here, with so many sweet photos of their cat, too! Her mama is also such a talented decorator, and I loved photographing portraits in their home) I love how Lindsay says below that “The session itself is a memory to remember!” It’s so true, a time to have fun with your little one and celebrate the milestone you are documenting.

According to Mom…

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one? Cory, dad – He’s a huge sports fan and is hoping Avery will be interested in sports, too. He’s got a lot of golf skills to teach her and Baltimore Ravens games to watch with her!
Lindsay, mom – I’m a pretty girly girl – always have been. I’m hoping Avery will love dolls, Barbies and cute outfits!
Avery, our little girl – Too early to tell if she’s going to favor her mom or dad’s interests – or have interests all of her own. Right now, we’re just enjoying her learning about the world.

Does your little one have any favorites right now? Her favorite thing right now is probably our cat Twix. She loves chasing her around, laying down on her and petting her. She’s also starting to love to read. She always brings out Brown Bear, Brown Bear – What Do You See? And she pulls “Oh Baby, Go Baby” off the bookshelf every day.

As far as food goes, she would eat chicken nuggets and bananas every day if we let her, and she gets really sad when her yogurt or fruit pouches are done.

Song? She loves music – so much so that she lights up when I sing, which says a lot since I can’t carry a tune!

What was your favorite part of the session? We love working with Becky. She always keeps mom and dad laughing and is so relaxed, even when we’re a bit stressed about getting the right shot. She always has the best settings, props and styling tips that keep us all looking our best.

At our one-year session, Avery was about to lose it and was trying to eat leaves. To keep her happy, we pulled out the Cheerios and ended up having quite a few shots of Avery with Cheerios stuck to her face.

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the session. Avery wore a little fall ensemble — a herringbone camel and black-colored dress with black tights — from Janie and Jack. Her grandparents bought her the outfit to wear this Fall, and as soon as I saw it, I knew it’d be perfect for her one-year pictures. Her gold moccasins are from Freshly Picked.

What are some words of wisdom you have for other Mamas preparing for a session? As a perfectionist, I’ve had to tell myself this going into every session – Be flexible. Something won’t go perfectly – especially if you’re shooting with an infant or toddler. They’re not going to pose exactly like you envision. They may burst into tears or rip off the cute headband you picked out. And that’s okay! Becky has this incredible way of capturing the most beautiful, pure moments no matter the circumstance. Trust that the photos are going to come out beautifully, and then relax and have fun with your family. The session itself is a memory to remember!

What have been you favorite baby gear during the first year? For moms who are formula feeding, you have to invest in the Baby Brezza! It is a godsend. It’s a Keurig for baby formula. We’ve adopted a less-is-more mentality toward baby gear at the Wessel house – so anything that’s minimalistic but does the trick is the way we go. And for that reason, we’ve loved the IKEA high chair. It’s only $20 and is everything you need, nothing you don’t.

Do you have any pets, and how do they get along with your little one? I mentioned Twix earlier. (see Twix in their newborn portraits here) Avery is obsessed with her. Twix likes her, too, but she’ll never admit it. She sleeps at the foot of Avery’s crib and hangs out around the bath tub at bath time. She lays in the middle of Avery’s toys. But if Avery comes after her, it doesn’t take long for her to run away. Still, I think it’s a blossoming friendship.
