Durham Newborn Photography – Sweet Baby Sister

Oh, this big brother was just so doting on his baby sister. Holding her, kissing her, and full of smiles and giggles. When I first arrived at their home, he was still sleeping so we just let him sleep while we took some photos of his baby sister. He woke up oh so happy and ready for portraits. These two were just so precious together! I can’t believe it’s been almost two years since I photographed big brother’s newborn portraits and have loved photographing his first year. He is such a happy little one, always full of smiles!

According to Mom…

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? Finally she is here! She was 2 weeks late, so I was so excited to finally meet her!

What was your favorite part of having a session at home? It is so nice to not have to pack up the kids for a photo session outside of the home! Plus, everyone is so much more comfortable at home. We were able to let our older son get his morning nap while we got pictures of the new baby, and then pictures with the whole family after he woke up, it worked out perfectly!

How did you prepare baby for our photoshoot? There wasn’t much that I did to prepare…just got outfits together for the kids, and tried to tidy up the house a bit.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? With our first newborn session with our son, he would not go to sleep for the pictures, so there was a lot of nursing involved…so, I was kind of nervous this would be the same way, but our daughter was a bit more cooperative, and we got some great pictures. I was also a little nervous about how our older son would react, and how he would handle the picture session, but he did great. Of course it helps to have a very patient photographer who has experience with kids:)

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? Try to just relax as much as possible, I think the baby can sense when you’re stressed!

How did your older little one react to the new baby? Our son has been super sweet with the new baby! He is 20 months old, and he is a great helper. He loves to help change diapers, and claps for himself every time he throws away a diaper in the pail! He also loves to give her kisses. As soon as he gets up in the morning, he is looking for her, and ready with a kiss!

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? We love being outside and adventuring as a family. We spend a lot of Saturday mornings at the Farmer’s market and the museum.

Any advice to other families picking out wardrobe or planning a session? Don’t stress too much, and remember to have fun. The genuine laughs are the best pictures!
