This little one was just so peaceful..he was content whether he was awake or asleep during his newborn portraits. Such a sweet family, and I loved photographing the four of them together. We also got to take a few in big sister’s room (her room had the prettiest butterfly mobile!) and in baby brother’s room(so cute with all of his trains and we even got some with his train blanket!), which was great. The weather was also nice – right before it was normal for it to be 104 everyday. (way too hot!) so we even went outside for a few minutes and captured some images on their swingset. Their puppy even decided to be in a few! Such a sweet session at home celebrating the arrival of their little boy!

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? I remember thinking he looked a lot like his sister did the first time I saw her. I guess this isn’t shocking since they came from the same gene pool, but for some reason I was surprised that they looked so similar.
What was your favorite part of the session? i think we were able to just be ourselves a bit easier since we were in our own home. Because we were more relaxed in our setting, I believe the photos turned out better.
How did you prepare baby for the session? Amidst getting ourselves and our daughter ready, I think all we really did was bathe him.
How was your experience having your newborn photographed? I was nervous before because our family typically isn’t super photogenic. I was made a little more nervous when our daughter decided not to cooperate for most of the shoot, but in the end I was very pleased with the photos.
Did you have a sentimental item at our session? We used a quilt I made for him while I was pregnant. Also, trains are big with both of our families, so we also had Becky take a couple shots of him wrapped in a train blanket
Was there a sentimental item in your nursery or parts of your nursery that were special to you that we photographed? Becky definitely captured our ‘things that go’ theme in the nursery and we took a few photos in there with our aging dog – these I’ll cherish forever.
Do you have any other children? How did they react to the baby? Our daughter has done well with the addition of our son. While she was minimally cooperative on picture day, she is usually happy to hold him and likes to give him kisses. She is my big helper when he needs a diaper changed and she loves to fill up his tub for a bath. When she came to the hospital to meet him for the first time, we told her his name was Nathaniel, but she could call him ‘Nate.’ She thought about it for a second and responded that “he is so pretty, I can call him Kate.” Luckily she has since decided to call him ‘Nate’ after all.
Any advice to other families preparing for their session or picking out wardrobe? I took Becky’s advice and was glad I did.
