Raleigh Family Photographer – Charleston & Pinkle Toes

When Michele first mentioned a Pinkle Toes Workshop Reunion in Charleston, I jumped at the chance for her to photograph our family there. Michael proposed in the gazebo at the battery, and oh, how special to have a photo of the four of us there. And to have Michele photograph our family….eeeek and yay!!! Michele is such an amazing photographer – so creative and fun, and it was awesome to have our family photographed by her! So not only did we go through all of the normal session planning, but I also had to figure out a route of Charleston downtown for our session, figure out how to check in, get Michele from the airport, and be at the house for my hair and make up to be done. Michele is a rock star – this is kind of how the day went. We arrived in Charleston around 12:30 and ate at Jack’s Cosmic Dogs. Michele had been messaging me that her connecting flight was delayed…still delayed… It was also starting to look dark and cloudy. (I did not mention this to Michele. Weather.com’s hourly forecast looked promising that the sun would come out. You never know if it’s going to happen or not the way the forecast says but I just kept hoping.) We then were able to get the key to the beach house where we were all staying early at 1:50 (they weren’t sure how early we could get that day, even told us 3PM was a maybe) We got to the house and brought our stuff in. Michael then drove thirty minutes to the airport to pick up Michele and another friend who flew in early from Denver for the workshop reunion.(Husband of the Year) I had twenty minutes from when we got to the house until hair and make up got there. *I highly recommend having your hair and make up done for your family photos. We barely had a minute to spare to have mine done. It was such a great experience – she very quickly put my hair up, and I’ve never had airbrush make up before. lovvvveddd it. So I basically didn’t have to get ready at all, and everytime I look at the pictures, I’m so glad I had it done. I also liked my hair up because I didn’t have to worry with it and could just focus on having fun with my boys. The jasmine was blooming everywhere in Charleston and we put some in my hair which was special, and I loved that we were able to capture it in the photos.Thank you to my friend Brooke who convinced me to wear the blue and coral dress that I probably would have never tried on. And huge thanks to Little Apple Styles for helping me find three boy outfits to match PINK. Kind of a miracle – thank you, Ericka!

So you can see, a lot of work went into this day and it’s kind of amazing that it happened. Harrison was also teething really badly so thank goodness he took a nap on the way downtown and woke up refreshed for his portraits. Owen and Michele were also bffs right from the beginning.(see here) And our session, well, it was just plain FUN. We started at the gazebo where Michael proposed because it was important to me to have a photo there. One of the reasons I love looking at the photos – these boys are my dream come true. I didn’t know all those years ago when I was pouring my heart out praying for my husband that these sweethearts would be such a dream come true. How special to be able to come back here with our family at the spot where Michael proposed. When I told Owen the story of Michael proposing, he said it was “the loveliest story he’d ever heard.” I love the images at the gazebo – my sweet boys – so many answers to so many prayers. The photos capture our family and our little ones’ personality so perfectly, and I love, love, love them. Michele captured us together – just being happy, and just being us. When Michele sent me the link, I was standing in Whole Foods waiting on a smoothie, and the tears just poured. What a treasure these are!

After the gazebo, we strolled down Bay Street I think, and the photographers that we are, Michele and I were oohing and ahhing over all the pretty sights and the absolutely stunning light. (The clouds went away- yay!)  So we just kind of stopped and took a few photos, and walked a little bit more, snapped a few more photos, walked a little bit more. Michele, of course, had all kinds of amazing ideas to capture the light, the beautiful Charleston background, and our family. Someone was at Rainbow Row so we went down another street and then came back. (And did she not take the coolest photo ever of Rainbow Row. I’m so excited to have a big canvas of it!)  We ended our session at the Waterfront Park in the Pineapple fountain which Owen LOVED. He couldn’t wait to put on his shades, splash around and try out his new sailboat. Harrison however…was not so impressed. I am shocked Michele got one image with his sunglasses on! Afterwards, we got some Belgian gelato to celebrate!

It’s kind of amazing how much we squeezed into one session, and it was. so. much. fun. It was fun being a client, too! And now I have to start planning where I am going to hang all out these photos – I can’t wait!
