I first met this sweet family when I photographed older sister’s newborn portraits a few years ago. (Oh, and did you see her at the Free Holiday Minis, soooo cute!) I have loved photographing this family – they are so laid back, and genuinely happy together. It was such a sweet morning at home capturing the four of them laughing together and doting over that adorable baby boy.
According to Mom…
What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? Relief and pure joy! We had a hard delivery and he was 2 weeks late so we were so happy to finally have him in our arms!
What was your favorite part of our session together? Our session with Becky was fun! I loved watching my older daughter interact with her baby brother and to see how excited she was to show Becky her room and her toys. I was worried she would be quiet or anxious but it was just the opposite. I loved that she had fun with it and that we were able to capture that on film.
How did you prepare the baby for our session? He has been a mellow baby from day 1 but the morning of our session he got a warm bath and a full tummy. He was great the whole time. He only spit up on John once.
How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried or nervous before? How did it turn out? We thoroughly enjoyed it. This was our second newborn session with Becky so we sort of knew what to expect but I was a bit nervous my older daughter wouldn’t want to take pictures with the baby. She had a bit of a hard time the first week he was home. Becky was amazing and made her feel comfortable right away by focusing on her only in the beginning. We ended up getting some amazing sibling photos. I couldn’t be happier.
What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken? My advice would be to wear clothes your comfortable in and have fun. Some of the best pictures were the ones we didn’t pose for. Feeling relaxed and comfortable makes the experience even better.
Was there a sentimental item in your nursery that we photographed? We got a neat picture incorporating a toy truck that belonged to my uncle who passed. It was great to incorporate this piece of family history.
How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Our perfect weekend together as a family is being outside. We love to go to a park, hiking or just walking around the neighborhood. There’s nothing better than spending a beautiful day outside with my family!
Any advice for other families picking our wardrobe or preparing for family portraits? Ericka was amazing. She helped me pick the perfect outfits for everyone! This included a wardrobe change for everyone when we moved from our room to the nursery. I love how it turned out. She even went way above and beyond by coming to my home before the shoot to make sure our choices were good ones! I couldn’t have done it without her. I’d highly recommend taking advantage of her expertise!
