Weekday Morning Sweetness

Raleigh Family Lifestyle Photos

This was the second time I’ve photographed this sweet family in their home. Sessions at home are great because you can take your time getting ready, there’s no rushing out the door to get to a location, and you have everything you need at home. You’re not going to forget anything! It was such a sweet morning at home, and so fun to photograph both of their babies!

According to Mom..

What kind of feel did you want for your session? I just wanted a fun, loving session at our home of our new life as a family of 4.

Who are the members of your family and a quick fact about each one. Jonathan is a fabulous daddy. He loves snuggles with his kids. Lillian (2) loves dressing up as a princess. Jack (6m) loves his big sister.

What was the weather like the day of the session? The morning started off cloudy but got sunny as the day went on.

What was the best part of your session? I loved just being together. Our lives are so crazy with travel, work, preschool and naps schedules. It was great just taking the time and making each other laugh and smile.

Tell me about the outfits you wore at the session. Jack decided he didn’t like his first outfit. Before we even took our first photo Jack threw up all over it. He changed immediately into outfit number 2.

What props did you bring and why? No props….just Becky and Jack’s monkey to entertain Lillian and make her laugh.

What’s your favorite family weekend activities? Saturday mornings are for long walks. We walk to get bagels and donuts! Then head out for a day of soccer practice and games.

At Home With Three

It would easy to get overwhelmed or stressed when you have three little ones three and under and you have newborn portraits scheduled. (Oh, and see their maternity portraits here)These two just know their boys and what entertains them so the session really flew by easily. These two were absolutely adorable with their baby brother, and oh my, I just love the photos of their brother by himself in the end – so simple and classic. I am sure there is never a dull moment at their home, and that this crew of five has so much fun together. I feel like I was just at their home for their second baby boy’s newborn portraits. (And see the biggest brother’s portraits here) What a fun morning this was, and I love photographing family newborn sessions at home.

According to Mom..

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? He’s tiny, is what I said when the Dr. got him out. He wasn’t really a small baby but my smallest and I knew that right away. After that when I looked at him I just thought how sweet he smelled and how glad I was that he was here!

What was your favorite part of our session together? I have 2 other small children and Becky is great about making it no big deal what they were doing. She was able to work with them and make them laugh and got some really good shots of all of us and of just my boys. I love being at home especially for my preschooler and toddler because they are in a comfortable environment and when we were doing pictures with my husband, me, and the baby the boys had plenty of other toys that occupied their attention. Plus I feel like being at home just captures us in our natural state.

How did you prepare the baby for our photoshoot? I made sure that he was fed and had a clean diaper.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried or nervous beforehand?Like I said this was my third baby and my third newborn session with Becky. I wasn’t really nervous or worried because I know Becky is so good at letting us have breaks when needed. So when we had to stop for me to feed baby I knew it was no big thing.

What would be your advice to someone having newborn photographs taken? Don’t stress! Babies are unpredictable and Becky is great about understanding that. But also be prepared…feed baby right before and give a clean diaper. It gives you the best chance at baby not being fussy the whole time. Have fun! My favorite pictures are the ones that show our family interacting together and my boys smiling and laughing.

Do you have any other children? How did they react to the baby? Yes! My boys are obsessed with their baby. They love to kiss him, hold him, and hug him. It’s so sweet to see the bond they are all building.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? Perfect Saturday would be a relaxing pancake breakfast and then relaxing at home together.

One Hundred Degrees

Raleigh Maternity Photography

How do you photograph maternity portraits in one hundred degrees? Quickly, very quickly! Remember the heat wave we had in August that was just ridiculous? We were originally scheduled for an evening session, but decided that was just crazy and met super early one morning. We got out of the car, sweated through the whole thing, but we got it done before their baby brother was born! (His newborn portraits will be on the blog ASAP!) Loved getting to photograph this sweet family before he was born, and glad we were able to do it early before the heat was ridiculous. Also, these two are rockstars for getting these two sweet boys up early, dressed and at the session ready to go!

According to Mom…

What was your favorite part of the session, and why did you pick the location? My favorite part of the session was how laid back and simple it was. I picked a field because I love the natural elements in photography and I loved all the greenery in the background.

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? The only thing I was worried about was how my kids would do being in the heat and how my hair would look. :). Becky is always so good about helping the kiddos and shooting fast that it wasn’t an issue.

   Little Gift

Cary Apex Newborn Photographer

I was able to go on a brief trip to NJ/NYC this summer and photographed this sweet family the day after I got back. So many giggles and smiles.(And you can see big sister’s newborn portraits here) Carter was just such a content baby and his sister with him was the sweetest thing ever. I am laughing that Mom’s favorite part of the session was me throwing things – anything to get the photos, right? What a little gift this one is to his family, and so thrilled to see them again!

According to Mom..

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time? We were just so thankful he was here! We tried for a while to have a second baby and dealt with some real disappointment during that time, so to finally have him here was just an overwhelming joy!

What was your favorite part of our session together? My favorite part was definitely when you started throwing things around to get Remie’s attention.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you worried or nervous beforehand? I wasn’t worried or nervous at all because I knew from experience it would go perfectly! I was elated that you were able to fit us in on short notice and make me feel so much better about getting great newborn pictures.

Did you have a sentimental item at our shoot? Recreating some of the same images you did when you photographed Remie is really neat and special. Also, the pictures including the blanket my mother knitted for Carter are amazing.

Do you have any other children? How did they react to the baby? Remie LOVES her baby brother. She tells him countless times each day and he’s the first thing she looks for when she walks into the room. His little head is actually the first thing she’s ever truly kissed with her lips. She’ll do the motions and act like she’s giving a kiss, but she’s actually kissed this sweet baby’s little head and it’s the sweetest thing.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday as a family? We like to exercise together in the mornings. In the summer, pool time with a picnic lunch is so much fun. And in the fall, going to a pumpkin patch or a hay ride is the best! BBQ for dinner followed up by going out for ice cream… sounds like our perfect Saturday!

College Sweethearts

Wake Forest Maternity Photography

It’s always nice to meet before your newborn portraits and hang out, because you know, life with a newborn can be kind of hectic. Maternity portraits are perfect for that, and it was so great to get to know this sweet couple. They were so incredibly sweet together, and I can’t wait to find out if they are having a boy or a girl! So many fun maternity sessions the past few weeks, I can’t wait to meet all these babies!

According to Mom…

What was your favorite part of the session and why did you pick the location? I loved the natural field and the white fence; it reminds me of Kentucky horse country. (where I’m from.)

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? Of course, the outfit always causes several second guesses, but Becky made the actual shoot pretty carefree.

How would you describe your perfect Saturday together? Any favorite restaurants? We are pretty simple: we love to stroll around and eat good food; on a good day we might take a bike ride out to a favorite place in the country. Favorites in Durham include Scratch bakery, the Parlour for ice cream, and Luna for a great meal.

How did you meet, and where was your first date? We met when we were placed in the same college freshman orientation group: classic, I know. The first date was a movie, School of Rock; I think I made him listen to my favorite musical theater cd, so that was a win.

Do you have any pets? Yes, Bodie the golden retriever. He is very cute and very manipulative; luckily manipulation generally just concludes with him being allowed on the couch to cuddle.

What is your favorite tv shows you watch together? We like The Americans, but it is rather intense. Lately, I can sometimes get him to dial into the Great British Baking Show. That one is just so pleasant.Wake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4959P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4960P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4961P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4962P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4963P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4964P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4965P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4966P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4967P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4968P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4969P I N this to pinterestWake Forest Maternity Photography 976_4970P I N this to pinterest
