Hey Santa!

Raleigh Santa Mini Sessions Photographer

It’s me, posting about Christmas for the whole month of January, because I finally get to blog all the magical mini sessions we had this fall! These two boys were so adorable with Santa. Photographing Santa mini sessions really is so much fun to see how excited the little ones are and experience the magic of Christmas.

One thing I also love about Christmas is foooood. It is definitely the most exciting food time of the year for me, ha! We made red velvet nutcracker cakes this year, which was new and super yummy. I also love pretty much all of the Hickory Farms food, which we have on Christmas Eve. We had prime rib at my in laws and beef tenderloin on Christmas Day at my parents..Then there was Christmas Eve Honeybaked Ham and all the fixin’s. (such a Southern word, ha!) And so many desserts, Christmas cookies, strawberry cake, chocolate pies, cheesecake, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, breakfast casseroles, ok, I could keep going on and on. I love collecting new recipes each year..I recently went to a women’s event where a Mama showed us her Christmas notebook where she organized all her presents, recipes, etc, and just got it back out every year. I love Christmas so much, I would love to plan for it all year long!

O Christmas Tree

Chapel Hill Durham Newborn Photographer

From the moment I walked in, big brother and I were BFFS. We started the session by taking headshots (see here) It was such a sweet morning with this family, and big brother was just so thrilled with his baby brother. (who slept like a dream, which doesn’t always happen at newborn sessions) Most of you know, I love taking photos of the Christmas tree, and the ones of these two brothers together, love, love, love. It was so sweet to see big brother taking off baby brother’s hat and playing with his hair. And playing with his toes, too..soo cute! I am probably oversharing because I just want to post every single image from this session, but I didnt, but I wanted to! And, because it’s winter, had to add the snowflake at the end! (And it sure feels like winter this week! Waiting for it to start snowing any minute..)

Raleigh Christmas Tree Farm Family Photos

This session was from round two of our VW Bus Minis at Back Achers Christmas Tree Farm in Raleigh. First of all, we had perfect weather. I am still amazed that it wasn’t ridiculously cold or didn’t rain any of our outdoor mini dates. These two were just so cheerful and sweet together! It is always fun photographing the magic of Christmas through the eyes of a child. Love all of our VW Bus minis, and can’t wait to share them all on the blog soon!

Fall Light

Raleigh Maternity Photographer

A few things are over – the extremely busy fall we had. (It was so so much fun but it was nonstop!) Christmas break is over for my oldest- he’s back to school today. Yes, I miss him. Am I the only one that doesn’t want Christmas break to end? I loved being able to bake cookies, go see a movie..all the things I just don’t have a lot of time for during the crazy fall season. Plus, since it’s below freezing and ridiculously cold, I think I’d rather stay inside, drink hot chocolate and bake cookies than be anywhere outside. Cold is not my BFF. We were really blessed this year that our mini sessions were not freezing cold days, and not a single drop of rain on any of the scheduled dates, which is really a miracle. I have so much to blog from the fall, and I really can’t wait to share all of the cuteness. Our minis this year were so much fun – airstream minis, little blue truck, VW Bus, and Santa.

But before I get into blogging all of the holiday minis, I had to share this maternity session. That fall light was just so pretty, and this mama was stunning! (Love, love, love her dress!) I love this location because it’s quiet in the fall, and even in the summer, we might get the occasional photobomb swimmer in the water, but it’s usually just peaceful. These two were just so sweet together which made capturing their maternity portraits effortless. They laughed and laughed. Can’t wait to meet their sweet baby soon!

Raleigh Horse Farm Senior Portraits Photography 

Every once in a while I get time to squeeze in some Senior Portraits, and it’s always such a fun time celebrating the end of high school. The farm where her horse is boarded is just beautiful and so far off the beaten path, I definitely had to call for help. I drove down the gravel road a few times before I found them. We had beautiful light that evening, and I always love the challenge of finding just the right light spots for photos. (I am just a little picky about my light. I was looking at a mini session location last night and was just like nope, not going to work, because the light isn’t perfectly perfect) It’s my goal every single session to look at light + use it in the prettiest way possible. And if it ends ups being cloudy, woo hoo, we can shoot in so many more spots (as long as they are not too dark) Dark, dark cloudy days are not my favorite. It is kind of crazy how I am always at the mercy of the weather. It is always changing so much, too. Before I go to sleep the night before a session can be a completely different forecast then the day of. Another fun part of this session was adding in her soccer jersey, the barn, a chair that happened to be in the car, and an image that happened when a horse walked in front of her. It gave a pretty white light because it was just so fast. Working with horses is fun but you never know what’s going to happen during the session. They kind of run the show!
