Dimples

Raleigh Studio Baby Photographer

This time of year can just be so unpredictable, and well, freezing cold. It’s kind of amazing the difference in temperatures from one day to the next in North Carolina. The studio is perfect for milestone baby sessions on cold winter days. This little one has been such a happy baby ever since her newborn portraits. And her two dimples are just so adorable! I can’t wait to share all of the images from her session, but here’s a few with that precious hat! I also love that her mama brought her pink handmade blanket. I really want one of these in my size (see here, and one of the best prices I’ve seen for the big ones)

The snow is melting and it’s back to school tomorrow. Time to stock up on pb+j, Owen’s favorite for his lunchbox. Also, organic applesauce + Annie’s Granola Barsare at the top of his list. I’m not one of those Mamas that just love shopping at the grocery store – I tend to avoid it at all costs. I will more than likely survive out of the freezer + the pantry than go to the store. (Read more about a pantry challenge here) Harris Teeter Express Lane is always great when I plan ahead. And instacart, shipt, or Amazon prime now in “emergencies.” So tomorrow it’s back to the grocery store and normal routines. This looks like a really yummy winter recipe to try!

The Glittery Snow Globe

I’ve been photographing this sweet girl since she was a newborn + her and Santa together is just precious. I loved this set Ericka worked so hard on so so much! It takes a lot of time to put together the sets, but when they are finished, they are so worth it! And this sweet girl’s dress was just perfect + beautiful. I love the holidays so much so I’ve loved going back through each session to blog them…especially the magic of Santa sessions – little ones bringing their lists and getting just so excited to see Santa. It’s the sweetest.

My boys had so much fun sledding on the little hill behind our house this afternoon. They mostly loved dodging snowballs from their daddy and also trying to hit him with their own snowballs. The snow is just so pretty, I can’t believe I’m saying that I’m actually going to be sad to see it go. Without the hurriedness of errands and carpool, I’ve been able to get a lot of work done. It’s also so fun to see everyone’s snow photos + videos on social media. And the snow looks so pretty with the blue skies today. Still waiting to see if they are going to call off the schools tomorrow. I’m excited to start working on our snowflake cookies! Fun, fun!

Beep

Raleigh Holiday Family Photography

This was the first time we met this sweet family at our first ever Holiday Blue Truck Minis. Beep Beep! And they were just so sweet together. How cute is this little one? He was all smiles for Ericka + I!

Fifteen degrees. It was fifteen degrees this morning. My little one wants to be out in the snow just so badly, but at fifteen degrees, my hands just ache. And I have to laugh at my older one, who loves warmth so much, he wants to be inside building forts and watching Star Wars marathons. (which we have been doing. The force is strong with this one) We recently took the Star Wars tour at Disney, and it was so super fun. Growing up with a brother, we alternated between Anne of Green Gables + Star Wars, so having seen it so much, of course I am a fan. The boys did the hilarious photoshop thing in the Star Tours gift shop on our trip, I need to post it today. I think that it may have been the photographer’s first day because she was getting some help during the process. In the midst of that, Harrison was screaming that he wanted to take a nap. (My child loves his sleep now) I don’t remember what happened – Michael must have done something goofy, but he smiled for one second in the middle of the crazy busy gift shop. (probably his Yoda voice, Harrison’s favorite) I am thankful after the busy busy fall, I cherish the quietness of January and getting to be with my boys a lot more. And even having these snow days after our trip, to get to have some quiet time with them is a treasure. My main goal today is to make snowflake cookies with them. For some reason I have always been afraid of making cookies from scratch, like they wouldn’t hold together or it’s too many ingredients, I’m wasting money since I don’t make them a lot. (I know, all silly excuses) But these past few months, my boys have loved making cookies. And making them from scratch is so much easier than I thought and not that many ingredients. (especially since the boys want to bake a lot) By happy accident, we made our sugar cookies with lemon extract over the holidays. (I thought I bought vanilla but I bought lemon! ha!) Now my boys love lemon sugar cookies, and I actually like them better, too! It’s a memory and a treasure to have this time with them..On that note, I’m not sure when this snow is going to melt but I promised Harrison a sled ride today, so off I go!

Snowy Day

Raleigh Christmas Mini Sessions Photographer

Raleigh Christmas Mini Sessions Photographer 43.jpgP I N this to pinterest

It did not snow during the first round of our VW Bus Minis, but it sure is pouring now! Every time I look outside, it’s like whoa!!! It’s still coming down. And I sure do love looking outside on snow days, snuggled up inside. As long as the power is on and I have hot chocolate, snow days + I are good. So on these cold winer days, after the kids come inside and take off all their snow gear, take a bath, and settling into playing where it’s warm, I love to read the book The Snowy Day. This one is such a favorite of mine, and the kids just LOVE IT. In case you are looking for some good reading material, that’s a good one. Plus, you can search Snowy Day Book activities on Pinterest and find all kinds of great stuff. On our Disney Trip (ten hours in the car. twice.) I just finished Before We Were Yours, and I cried a lot. I liked at the end of the book that the author mentioned what was true in the book and some interesting facts about everything that happened. It must be a popular book because I went in with a gift card and left with the last one in the entire Barnes and Noble. I also finished Orphan Train. I wasn’t trying to stay along the same theme, but I had put a ton of possibilities on hold at the library and this one just happened to be my turn to read. This was also based on something that actually happened and was a pretty interesting read, too. Out of the two, Before We Were Yours was my favorite. And now I’m trying to figure out what my next book will be, but everything I pick up doesn’t turn out to be that interesting. I have a hard time getting into books. The first chapter is always the hardest for me sometimes. Book suggestions, friends!

Buffalo Plaid

Raleigh Airstream Family Photography

This winter I have been a little bit crazy about Buffalo Plaid. It’s just so pretty, and black and white so classic. Both of my boys definitely have some buffalo plaid shirts. And I want a tiny bit of it in the house somewhere, but I haven’t figure out what just yet. (So many options) All this to say, when big brother showed up in his buffalo plaid blazer, I loooooooved it. And this mama is always so classy and stylish, so we knew cuteness overload was coming in the boys’ clothes. (Her + Ericka had chatted beforehand about clothes, so Ericka had already warned me I was going to go crazy over their outfits)

Since this is a Christmas post, (long overdue, I know, I know!) I’m going to share my three favorite kind of silly Christmas songs. 1. Santa Claus Got Stuck in My Chimney. (Ella Fitzgerald) Seriously love this song + listen to on repeat. 2. I’m Getting Nuttin’ For Christmas. I think my boys get really tired of me teasing them with this song, ha, but it’s one of my dad’s favorites so of course, I love it, too. 3. Christmas Cookies by George Strait. I just had to search it on you tube and play it because I love it so much. “So those sprinkly things just make it worse. ‘Cause it makes them taste better than they did at first and they’re absolutely impossible to resist…”So if you feel like a little bit of a giggle on this snow day, search for these on you tube. (or itunes, or whatever:)I have always been a huge George Strait fan growing up, which I really just like so many different types of music, but I think I’m going to have to listen to George on this snow day now! (and make cookies, too, of course!)
