Downtown Hillsborough Family Photography

I first met these two adorable boys at our 2015 Holiday Minis. When it was time for their family session, they were just so excited and brought their super fun dinosaurs. I absolutely loved the dinosaurs and we really were able to have so much fun with them. You may only see them in a few photos but they were right there with us the whole time. I had never been to downtown hillsborough and just loved it. By the time we were done, I barely missed the chocolate shop so I will have to go back! Loved photographing this sweet family and exploring downtown!

What kind of feel were you thinking for your session? Vintage, urban, modern? Why did you choose that? I guess we were going for a small town America feel.  We spend so much time in downtown Hillsborough and love our town – the Riverwalk, parks, restaurants, shops and constant family events…  Neither one of us is native to NC and odds are good that one day our boys will grow up and live somewhere else.  I thought it would be nice to capture us – where we are now, where we spend our time, what we do, how we look.

Bob – daddy – recipient of tackle hugs from our boys on a daily basis, works in finance in Morrisville, hobbies – swimming, exercise, reading, playing with the boys.Kerry – mommy – Director of HR for recruiting firm (part-time, out of the house), full-time mom, vegetarian.Teddy – turned 5 shortly after this shoot – loves learning about animals and especially a fan of dinosaurs and sea creatures James – 2.5 – loves his big brother, has one volume – LOUD

I loved that the boys were laughing and having fun.  The pictures are something I wanted, but it’s nice that it wasn’t a chore for them.  Teddy asked the next day when we could go “do pictures again?”

What’s your favorite family activity?
Being outside together – running around, playing (burning off the boys seemingly boundless energy)
Eating – we’re a big fan of picnics when the weather cooperates
Being with friends
Going into downtown Hillsborough
What was the weather like the day of your session?
We got lucky with the weather.  I was hoping it would be cool enough for jeans, but not so cold that we needed coats and we had exactly that.
I wanted us in something casual that looked like what we would wear everyday.  It feels like we get pictures when we’re all dressed up for special occasions, I wanted to look and feel like us.

Teddy has stunning blue eyes, so I figured that we’d put him in blue.  I have a blue vest that I live in, so that was an easy pick.  And then Ericka helped me come up with some ways to tie it all together.

Toy dinosaurs – because I had no choice.  The boys love the dinosaurs and they were a new gift from my best friend who surprised us with a visit from Pennsylvania the day before.Chocolate lollipops from Matthew’s Chocolates – everything from Matthews is amazing and having a treat at the end of the session seemed like good bribery… just in case.Little wooden kaleidoscopes for the boys – I saw them at a store and they looked like fun .Hats – Teddy loves to accessorize

hink about what is important to you and what represents you and go from there.  The pictures will be beautiful no doubt, but the reason ours are special to me though are because they “feel” like us.

Just making it fun – and that ended up being a non-issue
