Creatives for a Cause

Article by Ericka of Little Apple Styles

About a month ago, Becky and I attended Creatives for a Cause, Raleigh.  This event is organized by Molly Dansby from Ply Fine Paper.  The event not only promised a braid bar, a chalk lettering workshop, a flower crown workshop and an original pastel artwork – but also sweets and drinks were included.  EEEEK!!  One hundred percent of the ticket cost was going to the N.C. Children’s Hospital – so I was immediately sold!

I do not go out much, by choice, so I may have over thought the outfit I was going to wear a little too much.  I kind of knew many creatives in the industry will be present – so I needed to play the part. Ha!  After changing many times, I ended up wearing my first and most comfortable set.  Which I am glad I did, because I needed the room in my pants after eating the delicious sweets from Sugar Euphoria.

The braid workshop was so much fun!  While I already knew how to braid, I really never thought much of it until Cara demonstrated her techniques, and shared her secrets.  I even got a braid that lasted several days. My poor Eva has been my guinea pig since then, and I can proudly say I have finally mastered the crown braid!  #momgoals

My new passion?  Chalk Lettering!  Maghon from All She Wrote Notes is not only super talented but so fun.  After her workshop I felt I could conquer the world one chalk at a time…haha.  Now imagine how I would have felt if I had taken a whole class!  When I got home, I was surprised by how supportive Mr. Little Apple is with my new found interest.  He later confessed he was just excited for once I stopped talking about chickens.

Making a flower crown was also super fun and so many pretty flowers from Flour & Flower. We took selfies with our flower crowns and also spent some time learning oil pastels from Lisa Gaither art. (you do not want to see Becky’s…it did not look like a poppy like it was supposed to)

This event was so much fun – and inspiring.  Becky and I got a much needed girly time and brain stormed new ideas for upcoming sessions and blog posts!  A win-win for sure:)
