Raleigh Maternity Photography – The Little Moments

A lot of thought and planning goes into each session..I really think about each one and get so excited the day of the session. (I love, love, love photographing families!) But, with all the planning, it’s the little real moments that happen between families that are the best. No amount of planning can capture that. I first photographed this sweet family when their little one turned one, and how fun to see how big he’s gotten and that they are having another one soon! yay! Oh, and the light the evening of their session – just perfect! There were some storms the day before and we had to reschedule..ended up with gorgeous weather. Oh, and this little one, he had so much fun exploring the park and giving his Mommy & Daddy kisses – such a cutie!

According to Mom…

Why did you choose the location, and what was the weather like the day of your session? We were originally scheduled to do the shoot on a day where it rained almost the entire day, so we moved it to the next night and we totally lucked out. We ended up with the most amazing weather the day of our session. We couldn’t have picked a better night for a shoot. It had been over 100 degrees for almost two weeks straight and miraculously a cold front moved through and it was only 85 degrees with a gorgeous sunset.

What’s your favorite family activity? Anything outdoors together – playing sports, swimming at the pool, taking our son to a playground or park…

Who are the members of your family and tell me a quick fact about each one. Jonathan, Rebecca, Sawyer (almost 3 years old) – he’s going to be the best big brother – he’s so caring and doting

What was your favorite part of the session? My favorite part of the session was just letting my son run around in the field and be himself. He always makes us laugh and smile and so those photos were the most natural. I look at them now and can remember the exact moment Becky was able to capture.

Tell me about the outfits you wore to the session. I pulled the outfits together last minute out of our closets, since we booked with Becky so late I didn’t have a lot of time. They surprisingly worked great together though! Maybe it was a blessing that I didn’t have a lot of time to overthink it:)

What props did you bring and why? I didn’t bring any props with us, but I had brought some m&m’s and other items to help encourage our 2 year old to take pictures which did help a lot. However, I was also impressed at the items Becky brought herself to help keep Sawyer’s attention through the shoot. It was amazing what she could get him to do for a little plastic fire truck. It worked every time.

What are some words of wisdom you have for other families preparing for a family session? Bring plenty of water for everyone in your family with this heat. Our son was extremely thirsty from all of the running around.

The main thing I took away from the session were that my favorite photos were the ones that happened naturally and weren’t as forced or planned in advance. I would recommend just being yourself and do the typical things you would do as a family. You will cherish those photos the most.

Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? My main worry was the weather, but Becky was so flexible about moving it when we saw it was going to storm. It all worked out in the end.
